| I have to agree with a previous reply. I think of a man rather than a
girl when you hear Sydney. Then again there are a lot more girls with
"boy's" names. I kind of like the name Taylor Lynn Herrera. But it's
just a suggestion. Good luck in deciding.

| I dislike unisex names. Working in such a large company, all the phone
messages, if a Sydney called for you, wouldn't you assume from looking
at the message that it is a man? Maybe that's one way for a woman to
get ahead in this man's world, though!! I like different names, too,
but you can definitely find "girls" names that are different. Heck,
just look in this notesfile!!!

| I agree that some unisex names are too confusing, but not ones that
have different spellings. "Sidney" is the masculine spelling for the
name so when I see "Sydney" I know it's a female. At any rate, I
rather like the name and I, for one, don't think of an old man when
I hear it, but rather of a woman I know from New York who is very
beautiful and cosmopolitan. When I think of Sidney in the masculine
sense, I see Tony Randall! Remember that sitcom he was in??? Also,
I prefer the spelling "Sydney" as opposed to the other ways the base
noter suggested - but then you could also use a "C" instead of an "S".
Remember Cyd Charisse (sp?)? I'm not sure if that's short for Cydney
or if it's just a stage name, but I like it. Sydney gets my vote...

| Sydney is a great name! Friends of ours have a Sydney Louise - she's
the cutest little thing (18 months old) - I think Sydney is starting to
catch on as a popular name (but not 'too' popular) - Also, a new sitcom
with Valerie Bertinelli just started this week (SYDNEY) - check it out
and see if you like the character.....
I think you should go for it!

Hmmm, I know a Sydney, an adult woman, and although the name
seems to suit her, I don't think I would choose it for a girl.
I don't think Sydney is a particularly masculine name, but
I do think of an older male, possibly bald, cigar sticking
out of the corner of his mouth, when I see the name Sidney.
Don't use Taylor. Not even a good boy's name.
And what are my qualifications for these opinions? Well, does
going through the great American naming game once, and now again,
count? There are plenty of other names in the sea besides Sydney.
Be choosy about what you name your child.

Also, I am not hip on unisex names, either, as indicated in
others' replies. Don't let my biases stop you, though.

| How do you pronounce your last name? Alexander Herrera seems very hard
to say. and Sebastian as a middle makes it more of a mouth full. but
I don't really know just how your last name sounds. The full name just
might sound o.k.
I LOVE Sydney Michele. That sounds very pretty. Unisex names I think
are just fine. If I receive a message from a "Jaye" - I'll assume it
is a female - or spelt differently if it's a male. - my point is, I
really don't understand why it matters to us when we receive a letter
or mail message from a person that we MUST know if they're male or
female. I'd just read the contents and respond. When and if we ever
meet or speak on the phone - then I'd know. Why would we have to
know before hand?

| RE: .7
FWIW, Cyd Charisse's name came from her little brother, who couldn't
say "Sis." I don't remember what her real name is - something very
ordinary.
I rather like Alexander Sebastian Herrera. It goes against the
"rules," but I think it is rather musical, and Alex Herrera certainly
sounds good.
I, too, think if Tony Randall in "Love, Sidney" when I hear the name,
but there's nothing wrong with it. Sydney Michele *does* sound nice.
Good luck!

| My sister had a little girl on May 20th, she named her Sydney Reid.
I'm getting used to it, took a while. I also associate it with an
old man.
OJ Simpson's daughter is also named Sydney.
