489.0. "What do you think?" by JAIMES::BARRL (Is this profound enough?) Thu Feb 01 1990 14:46

I'm expecting my first child at the end of July. Because of the
fact that both of my grandparents passed away this past year (I
got pregnant the day before my grandmother died), I decided that
depending on the sex of the baby that I would use their names as
the middle name. This is what I've come up with so far:

    Girl - Amelia Rae
    Boy - Shane Louis

By the way the baby's last name will be Andujar - Pronounced
    An-doo-jar.

I don't think the name Amelia goes with Andujar. It doesn't "flow".
You might try a name that doesn't end with an "a" sound.

    Janine Rae Andujar
    Emily Rae Andujar

Sorry, but I hate the names Janine and Emily. Besides it wouldn't
be just Amelia Andujar it would be Amelia Rae Andujar and that flows
    quite nicely IMO.

    Lori,

I think using your grandparents' names as middle names is a nice
idea. I love the name Rae - In fact, I wanted to give that to
my daughter as a middle name, but opted for my husband's idea of
giving her my mother's first name as a middle name. (She passed
away, too). And I think Louis is a good middle, too. I've always
liked that name (more for a middle name than a first name) - my
friend's middle name is Louis and so is his little boy's. Whatever
you decide, good luck and congrats.

489.4Need more suggestions...... What about Heather?BARTLE::BARRLLike a bird without a songTue Apr 10 1990 15:4526
    Hi,

Since I put in the base note I've decided that I really don't like
the name Amelia that much any more (funny how you can love a name one
minute and not really like it that much the next).

The other night a friend of mine called and jokingly asked me if I was
going to name the baby Heather (her name). I turned to my boyfriend
and said, "She want to know if we're going to name the baby Heather".
He then said, "Heather Rae Andujar, I like that a lot". Then we kind
of laughed about it and that was the end of it. Now I've been thinking
alot about it and I kinda like it too.

    Any opinions?

Also, a few other names that I like are:

    Ashley
    Amber
    Shaynah
    Shoshana

    I need some more suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Lori B.

Heather...a bit popular, but very nice!

    Goes good with Rae, too.

Definitely my fave of the list on .4.

489.6Nice choiceNUTMEG::MACDONALD_KWed Apr 11 1990 11:3626
I'll try this reply again - I made too many typos last time :-(

I also like Heather Rae... And don't be too concerned about it's
popularity. True, it's a relatively popular name, but I think it
was more popular about 10 years ago. You mentioned "Ashley" in your
last reply - I think that's far more trendy than Heather is today
and will go out of fashion sooner. Heather is a more "classic" name.
I've always preferred more unique names, but then I went and named
my daughter Allyson, which is pretty common by today's standards,
but I really *liked* the name and so did my husband so we compromised
a little with it's popularity. It's spelling, however, is maybe a
little more unique than "Alison". At any rate, what I'm trying to
say is that naming your child is hard enough without having to worry
about a name being too popular. You can look at it this way - At
least your child's name will be easily recognizable and less likely
to be made fun of. Also, you might want to take into consideration
that her/his last name is somewhat unusual (not like Smith or Jones)
and a more "common" first name might go better with it. Ultimately,
the decision is yours and *you* must be happy with it.

FWIW, I think Heather Rae is beautiful.

Well, I think I'm going nuts. I can't make up my mind and I only have
9 more weeks to decide. I'm pretty much set on Shane Louis Andujar for
a boy (at least I haven't changed my mind since February, so that's a
good sign), but I just can't seem to think of a girls name that really
strikes me. I really do like Heather, like I had mentioned, but just
the other week I was talking to an old friend and the name Heather was
mentioned about five times, each time about different Heather's. I
guess the name is a little more popular than I thought and I don't want
my child to have a name that everyone else has. I had to go through
life with at least one other Lori or Laurie and every one of my classes
in school and I would like my child to have his/her own identity and
uniqueness. Another name that I've been thinking about is Taryn
(rhymes with Karen). It's unique and I think it that Taryn Rae Andujar
    sounds quite nice.

I would appreciate at it if you know of any unique names that you could
enter them here so I could have more of a list to choose from. I've
been looking in my babynames book and the unique names in there are a
little too off the wall for me.

    Thanks again,
    Lori

I like Taryn Rea, pretty and not so common.

489.9Shayna and ShoshanaWAV13::STEINHARTToto, I think we're not in Kansas anymoreTue May 29 1990 19:285
Shayna means beautiful in Yiddish. My mom used to call my little
brother shayna boy and I thought she was calling him shiny boy.

Shoshana is a very beautiful Hebrew name that means rose. Goes well
    with Barrl I think.

My last name is Barr not Barrl. Besides, the baby will have it's
father's last name (Andujar) not mine.

    Lori,

The more I think about it, the more I like Taryn. And boy, I guess
I was way off in my last note to you about baby's last name. For
some reason, I thought it was something like 'Bennett'. Anyway...
I still like it with Andujar. As for Shane - I'm glad you've decided
on that one. It's a great name and I also really like Louis for a
middle name. My friend Gary's middle name is Louis and has a son
named Daniel Louis. Just a few more weeks to go, huh? :-)

After several ultrasounds (I have them twice a week now do to the fact
that I'm diabetic) it's been determined that I'm definately having a
boy. I'm going to be having an amniocentesis done next Tuesday and if
the baby's lungs are developed, they will induce me sometime after
Wednesday (I asked them if they'd wait until Friday so I could finish
out the week here at work). So I may be a mother by next weekend. :-)

    Lori B.

P.S. He will definately be named Shane Louis Andujar
489.13Be sure to let us all know ASAP after WednesdaySAGE::MACDONALD_KMon Jul 16 1990 13:3910
God, Lori! Are you dedicated or what??? If I was told anytime after
Wednesday, I'd say "Do it Wednesday night!!!" :-)

At any rate, yes, yes, yes, I like Shane Louis *very* much. I know
a little boy named Shane and he sure is a sweetie. I'll bet yours
is too! Congratulations and have a nice, speedy, and (if possible)
    painless delivery.

Thanks! I had the Amnio done and unfortunately, the lungs are not
mature enough for them to induce the labor. I have to have another one
done sometime next week. The reason why I'm working 'til the end is
    because I'm a contract worker and if I don't work, I don't get paid.
I can only collect unemployment after the baby is born, so therefore, I
have to work. It's a bummer, but someone has to pay the bills.

489.15It's a boy!ISLNDS::BARRMon Jul 30 1990 15:4917
I would like everyone to know that my sister Lori had a beautiful
baby boy! Finally after 18 hours of labor, he was born on Friday,
    July 27th at 8:09 a.m. He weighs 7 lbs. 5 1/2 oz. and is 22 1/2
inches long. My nickname for him will be 'Stretch'. As Lori mentioned
in .0 if it was a boy she would name him Shane Louis, and she did.

He has a full head of black hair and beautiful baby blues.

I'm not sure if anyone knew Lori had Gestational Diabetes during
her pregnancy and had a terrible time with it, but thank God neither
one of them have it now!

If anyone would like to send Lori mail, you can send it to my account
and I will print it off for her.

    I'm so excited!!! I'm an auntie!!! :-)

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that I'm back. It's hard to believe
that Shane is 5 1/2 weeks old already. I'm feeling great, but I wish I
didn't have to come back to work so soon. Oh well, someone's gotta
make some money so Shane can have nice things!

If anyone would like to send me mail, do so at this account (I'm the
only one who will be using this account).
