| re:-1 (Cindy)
My sister's name is Colette (middle name Therese - sorry, can't put
the accents in either!) and she loves her name. My whole family
is French as far back as we can figure but you'd never guess by
my last name now. Anyway... the way my sister got her name is
a little interesting... It turns out that both of my parents were
sick on the day of her baptism and weren't able to bring her. Also,
they weren't able to agree upon a name. Those were the days that
babies were christened very soon after they were born and didn't
have to leave the hospital with a name. At any rate, my father's
parents lived downstairs from my parents and my grandmother offered
to bring my sister to church to be baptized. When she asked my
mother what the baby's name was, my mother (who could barely get
out of bed) said "Oh, just name her what you want!" Later, after
my grandmother left, she came to her senses and said to herself,
"Oh no! I've just given my child to away to be named by a woman
whose own name is Medora! What have I done?!" Meanwhile, poor
old grandma is feeling the pressure of having to make such an important
decision. She picked really awful names for her own children (which
caused more anxiety on my mother's part) and hadn't a clue of what
to do. My aunt, who had been living at home, was currently reading
books by the French novelist Colette and they were laying all over
the house. My grandmother spotted one just as she was leaving and
said "Ah ha! That's what I'll name this baby. And I'll give her
Therese as her middle name." (Therese was my mother's name).
When my grandmother brought the baby back home, my mother was almost
afraid to ask her what her name was. When my grandmother told her,
she was quite pleased and realized that she and my father would
probably never have come up with that one on their own. At any
rate, it was a happy ending. Sorry to be so lengthy, but it kind
of fits with the subject.

| These names aren't quite "French", but I think they're sort of
internatinal:
Jacqueline (or Jacquelyn)
Joelle - don't know the origin of this. It is my neighbor's daughter's
and I thought it to be interessting.
My husband and I are expecting our first in May. I am French, German,
and Irish; he is 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Chinese. If we have a girl,
Jacquelyn is the name we've decided on.

Other french names I couldn't find in the last replies, and which
I really like are:
Fabienne (nice, isn't it?)
Pascale (for boys it's Pascal)

These names are really beautiful when pronounced in the french way.
I know a lot of other french names (my Mother is french), but I
hope even these will help you.
Good luck!!

No. I've never read any of her books. I just think the name Selange
is pretty. I think I first heard it on All My Children, the soap on
ABC. Way back when, there was a french character by that name.
