484.1 | Whatever happened to Jane and Mary? | STEREO::FAHEL | Amalthea Celebras, Luincarandir | Wed Jan 17 1990 09:57 | 6 |
| I hate to be the one to bring this up to you, Sandra, but most of the
"old, no longer common" names are common.
My vote would lean towards Hannah, tho.

484.2 | some suggestions | USWAV1::POTHIER | | Wed Jan 17 1990 10:38 | 32 |
| Okay, Sandi, here's some ideas.
First don't name her with anything that ends in "y" or "ie". An
example: Kimberly Twomey. It's too much "eeeee".
Some suggestions off the top of my head:
Old-fashioned:
Rebecca, Abigail, Amanda, Ruth, Selma
Not quite so old-fashioned, but still older & traditional:
Madeline, Paige, Claire, Meghan, Patrice, Muriel
A LITTLE more exotic:
Veronica, Simone, Jacqueline, Charlotte, Alexandra, Kendyll, Arielle,
Genelle
If you like alliteration in a name:
Tara or Thais (pronounce Tie- EEs)
Or how about a couple of old Celtic names:
Siobhan and Maeve.
Personally, I don't like the one syllable names with your last name,
but it'll depend on what you choose for a middle name, if any.

484.3 | Another vote for Hannah | CLOVE::MACDONALD_K | | Wed Jan 17 1990 11:14 | 10 |
| re:.1
I agree - old-fashioned, uncommon names are common now.
Especially Hannah. I know of three little Hannahs born
last year - but I still really love the name. That's
my first choice of the ones mentioned. Sounds nice with
Twomey.

484.8 | "LITTLE WOMEN" | SHARE::PHELAN | | Fri Jan 19 1990 10:28 | 21 |
| I like some of the suggestions listed. I have one that I think is very
pretty. Though, it does end with a "Y" - I really think it is
beautiful.
Hilary Paula Tomey
Another suggestion: For GREAT name ideas for girls, go buy or take
out from a libray the "classic" book:
" LITTLE WOMEN ".
You WILL find WONDERFUL OLD names in it for women.
BEST of LUCK !!!

484.9 | CASSANDRA - CASSIE | SHARE::PHELAN | | Fri Jan 19 1990 10:31 | 7 |
| Another name idea:
Cassandra and you could call her Casssa or Cassie (which is "old")
and you wouldn't get confussed with Sandra or Sandi.
Just a thought!~

484.16 | She's on leave | USWAV1::POTHIER | | Wed Jan 31 1990 12:29 | 6 |
| Just wanted to let everyone know that Sandi is now gone on maternity
leave. She would not tell any of us what name she had picked. She
wanted to keep us in suspense until the baby is born. (I don't think
she was really sure yet what name to choose.) Anyhow, I will let you
know what name she chooses when i find out.

484.17 | John Frederick | USWAV1::POTHIER | | Mon Mar 12 1990 10:17 | 6 |
| Well, surprise, surprise. Sandi ended up having a baby boy, after all
this fuss. This was one of those instances where the ultrasound (???)
was wrong. She was quite surprised, and it took her and her husband
awhile to pick out a name. They ended up with John Frederick Twomey.
Mother and baby are doing just fine.

484.18 | Happy Birthday, John! | FENNEL::MACDONALD_K | | Tue Mar 13 1990 06:51 | 13 |
| Welcome to the world, John!
I guess you really should never rely on ultrasounds when they
tell you it's a girl. This has happened to two of my friends
and they also had no boys' names picked out. The technician
who did my ultrasound sounds said she'll never tell anyone
that it's a girl because it's too risky. It's definately easier
to spot that it's a boy, though.
Congratulations, Sandy and family!
