| Karen,
Congratulations!
I like the name Samatha, but I especially like Joelyne. It's very pretty
and not very common. And that's a variation of spelling that I have never
seen before.
However, I can't imagine naming a baby Jeremiah Caleb. It sounds too
biblical. It conjures up the image of an old farmer with a long beard.
It also makes me think of the song Joy To The World ("Jeremiah was a
bullfrog. He was a good friend of mine. I never understood a single word he
said, but I helped him to drink his wine.") by 3 Dog Night. But if you and
your SI like it, go for it!
BTW, Samantha means "listener"
Jolene (Joleen, Joline, Jolyn) means "he will increase" ????Hmmm...
Jeremiah is biblical and means "appointed by Jehovah"
Caleb means "bold one; dog"

| I agree with Lori about Jeremiah. I just can't picture a cute,
little baby with that name. It's kind of like the opposite of
a seventy-five year old woman named Bambi. How about Jeremy?
It's a form of Jeremiah, but not old-sounding. But you know...
if you really like Jeremiah, it shouldn't matter what other people
think - especially since it's a name you've liked for a long time.
You've got a good last name to work with, so finding a name for
your baby should be easy. Good luck and have fun! Oh, and
congratulations too!

| How are you pronouncing Joelyne? Is it pronounced joe-ellen,
joe-lynn, or joe-lene?

| How about use Jeramiah as a "formal" name, and call him Jerry for
short?
I think that Jeramiah is a lovely name, and so flexable.

| I am pronouncing Joelyne as Joelene. I had a friend growing up whose
sister was a Jolyne but I like it with the "E" it makes the name look
complete for me.

438.6 | Jeremiah - appointed by God! | MEMIT::KBOOTH | | Fri Sep 15 1989 08:38 | 24 |
| re .1
I love the name Jeremiah - it does mean appointed by God. And Caleb is
bold one (I'd rather not tell people it means dog ;) ) but being a
Christian I have a pastor who told us that you should name a child what
you want it to be. Not just a cute name. I want my child to be
appointed by God and bold to always speak the truth and to stand
strong. My husbands name is Timothy ~ his mother named him for what
she wanted him to be and he has not let his mother down. My name
meaning pure in heart by biblical terms is one that has discribed me
also. So you see, the biblical characters Jeremiah and Caleb I believe
are worthy of my sons name sake.
Thank you very much for your input - we probably will have all kinds of
nick names for the names chosen as I agree and my one hold back was
that I could see a baby with Jeremiah as a name but I think he'd grow
into it.
Thank you for the congrat's - my husband and I are very excited - I am
an aunt of 11 so I can't wait to be a mother.
Smile!

438.7 | What's wrong with biblical names? | USWAV1::POTHIER | | Thu Sep 21 1989 11:45 | 8 |
| Congratulations to you Karen on your baby, and on sticking to your
guns! I like both your choices of names. There is nothing wrong
with biblical names, especially if you are religious. I like Jeremiah,
and as a baby, you can always call him Jeremy. Caleb is unusual,
old fashioned. I like it because you don't hear it anymore these
days. Also there has been a trend lately toward "old" names, like
Seth, Ethan, etc. So you're one of the trend setters!
