    Hi Heike,

    Well, I'll tell you, I've searched through all the name books I've
    got and even some more at the bookstore this past weekend and I
    haven't seen your name in *any* of them. You're quite right when
    you say it's a very unusual name! Do you think perhaps it's a form
    of Heide? I looked under variations of Heide in one of my books,
    but didn't see it - although that doesn't mean too much because
    its missing quite a few variations of other names that I've noticed.
    Anyway... good luck in your search and sorry I couldn't help.

410.2Typo perhaps?!WORDS::SIMPSONIglooFri Aug 04 1989 15:2711
    Just a really off the wall thought. .2 mentioned a possibility
    of Heike being related to Heide. Well if you noticed, the d and
    the k are typed with the same finger just a different hand when
    you rest them on "home row" I will often mis-type these two letters
    for eachother.

    Like I said, just a strange thought, you don't have to take it too
    seriously! :-)

410.3Not a typoNUTMEG::WENSINGMon Aug 14 1989 15:395
    In answer to .3

    Nope, it's not a typo. That's the real way (and only) of spelling it.

410.4Another HeikeJAWS::MCGONIGLEMon Feb 19 1990 15:335
    I know a girl with that name, she lives in Westboro. I was told her
    real name is Mary or Maria, and that her father started calling her
    this as a form of endearment. Meaning dear or loved one, now it is
    the only name she goes by. She comes from Germany, she's been in the
    US for a few years now.
410.5I like it!FENNEL::WENSINGThu Feb 22 1990 07:5113
    >  dear or loved one,
    I like that, I guess my mom really liked me.

    It's not often that I run into another Heike. Actually, I have only
    met one when I was about 15. I was rollerskating and a friend
    came over to me and said "Heike, meet Heike" -- both of our faces
    dropped. The name is so unusual, we were both stunned. I have heard of
    quite a few people who know another Heike though.

    Well, thanks for the input.
    Heike
