399.1 | trends in baby names | GLORY::DIAZ | | Tue Jun 27 1989 12:45 | 23 |
| Hi Cliff,
I always like reading your replies whether I agree with you or not.
I like to browse in this notes file basically to see if there are
new trends going on in the naming of children. I found deciding on a
name for the baby was a very hard thing to do. I grew up picking out
"romantic" names for my future children. Then I got married and have
a last name of Diaz which clashes with my Irish-German background and
any names I originally had in mind. Then you have this other person
whose opinion matters and he has certain ideas for names. Then I wanted
to know if there were any hidden connotations with our choices, i.e.
whimpy name, power name. And I wanted some family connection. Simple
enough?!
I find myself still wondering if I made the right decision about
my daughter's name (she'll hate it anyway). But I am getting great
ideas for the next baby.
To summarize, I read this file to see what names are popular and
to get ideas for the next baby, when ever that is.

399.2 | My reasons for reading | WORDS::SIMPSON | Igloo | Thu Jul 06 1989 12:46 | 16 |
| Hello,
I've been wondering where you got all that info! :-)
Anyway, I read BABYNAMES because I plan on having a family sometime
possibly soon. (No, for those of you out there that know me, I'm
not pregnant, yet!) It's interesting to know what names mean and get
some ideas too. I prefer different names to common ones, even though
my children will probably never get to pick out those personalized
items at the stores. (special order only, for special people!)
I am looking forward to the day when I can share some good news
with all of you about my future children.

399.3 | Intrigued also! | IND::BELFIELD | | Mon Jul 10 1989 15:02 | 11 |
| Hi!
I have always been fascinated with names. I think some people
mis-understand me at times, in the fact that, I am not married/pregnant
and probably comment far too often on various names! I would love to
take a college level class on the origin of names et cetera. as
mentioned in note .0 .
I really enjoy reading this notesfile!

399.4 | I don't really know | SKIWVA::FSCNO | | Thu Jul 27 1989 16:30 | 12 |
| Hmm.. I guess I'm a babynamer for several reasons. Taking two
years of high school Latin may have started my interest since Latin
is the base for many names. Also having a child and trying to settle
on a name that my husband wouldn't divorce me over was a big
inducement. And probably since we're planning to have more children
it may be that I'm trying to head off any problems before they occur.
Also, like Cliff, I have always had a fascination with names.
By the way, Jan, what is your daughters name?

399.5 | Name U | KAOFS::S_BROOK | Here today and here again tomorrow | Mon Jul 31 1989 14:18 | 6 |
| Our family is complete, with 3 girls, all mentioned in here somewhere
but I just enjoy the history of names ... first and last names.
Cliff, do you think we could start Name U (niversity) ?
