389.0. "GAETON, What is correct spelling?" by CURIE::FONTAINE () Thu May 18 1989 16:13

    I need help with a French boy name. The name is Gaeton (sounds
    like Gaton with a long a). What is the correct spelling of this
    name? Is is GAETON? I know and like the name but can't seem to
    get a confirmation on the spelling.

    Help!

    I believe what you are looking for is Gaetan.

    the ae diphthong is a long a (and not like which is long e)
    the second a is just a short a

    pronounced as Gay-tan with equal emphasis on both syllables, not
    allowing the tan to fall away.

    Hope this helps,

389.2Gaetan, THAT's how you spell it!!CURIE::FONTAINEMon Jun 05 1989 16:5010
    Yes, it certainly helps. I really like that name for a middle name
    but NO ONE was able to help me.

    I was close, but we didn't want to settle for a "close enough" spelling
    for our child's name.

    Thanks very much.
