388.0. "Colm:Celtic Saint" by AYOV27::KDELANEY () Thu May 18 1989 08:03
My wife and I are expecting our first baby in Nov/Dec.
Needless to say being an old fashioned sort of guy I'm
hoping it will be a boy.I f it is a boy we have decided
to call him Colm.
Colm is Gaelic for dove.
It was the nickname for the greatest of all Celtic saints
Columba Of Iona.
Columba is the Latinized form of Colm Kille which means "Dove of
The Church".
Being a Scot of Irish descent I can think of no better person to
call my first son after.
Columba was a man who was Priest and Prophet,Prince of the royal
O'Neil, warrior, poet, statesman and one of the main conduits of
Celtic culture into Scotland.
This country is for ever in his debt and he should be honoured
wherever Celts congregate.
It may be a lot of baggage to load on any kid but I'm sure that
it will serve to remind my son of his heritage and culture for
all the rest of his days.
Nuff said,
Kenny Delaney
