| I can't say I like "Tyler" much, either. "James Porter" has a nice ring
to it. It sounds dignified. I vote for that one. She can call him
J.P.!! :-)
Also, Tyler means "maker of tiles". Porter means "keeper of the gate".

| I like the name Tyler. I have a cousin-in-law that named her son
that. At first no one liked the name either but she stuck to her
guns and now everyone comments on it being a nice name. It sounds
very distingushed to me. I like it.
That same cousin of mine had a 2nd son and she really wanted to name
him Dylan. Everyone again tried to talk her out of it, and they
succeeded! She named her 2nd son Travis. She never meet a Dylan
before her 2nd son was born but since she's meet a few and she gets
a sting of quilt each time. If she has a 3rd son, his name will be
Dylan unless she's the one to change it!
Again, I like Tyler.

| Tyler James Barnett or TJ Barnett or try James Porter Barnett
or repeat JP Barnett. I'm tend to agree with James Porter just
for the fact that it retains her maiden name, I would look at it
as an honor. In fact, my middle name (which I use as a first name),
was my moms maiden name.

p.s. Don't you think Jim sounds better than Ty?

| Maybe you could try something similar to Tyler, perhaps Taylor,
that may be helpful as a "compromise" between the two.
My aunt had this problem with her daughter Laurinda -
Laura + Linda = the decision (between Laura OR
Linda)

If your wife doesn't like "James Porter" only because she doesn't
like "Jim" or Jimmy", how about "Jamie" as a nickname for "James"?
It's still different, but if he doesn't like it, he'll alwasy have
"James" to fall back on.

A friend of mine has three nephews. The oldest is named Brock,
but the younger two are Tyler and Travis. The funny thing about
it is, her dog's name is Dylan.

363.7 | How About "James Taylor"?!?! | KUDZU::ANDERSON | Give me a U, give me a T... | Sun Mar 19 1989 21:22 | 9 |
| I don't know -- I think you two need to find a middle ground
somewhere. "James" is an incredibly common, boring name.
"Tyler," on the other hand, seemw3s to be one of those names
that seem to be becoming VERY popular -- I have a feeling it
will become the "Ashley" of the 90s. "Taylor" is an idea,
but it's becoming pretty popular too. Why don't you just
dump the two names, and try to find some compromise.

| I also think that James is too common. My brother-in-law is named
James and is usually called Jimbo (how dumb!) Maybe the other
suggestion of using something similar is best. How about Tyrel?
Its uncommon and very masculine.

| I like the name Tyler. I think it sounds nice with the middle name
of James. But, I also agree that you should find some compromise.
How about David James (after your name -- DJ) or James Tyler. Good
Luck!
