| My book (Dunkling and Gosling) says it's the English version
of the Welsh Trefor. It's from a place name and means either
"great homestead" or "sea homestead." Populraized by the
actor Trevor Howard, who made it fairly popular in the 50s
and 60s.

| Another Irish / Welsh battle here I see! In Welsh, the f is pronounced
as a v so it's the same name. The name is probably of earlier Celtic
origin.

| Yes, this name sounds like it's becoming popular to me too
-- though I don't have anything else to go on but my own
subjective ear. I guess it sounds vaguely yup -- plus "t"
and "tr" seem to be pretty popular for boys ... like
Travis, Taylor, Tyler, etc. Does anybody know if there
are some new actors (anyone on Dallas?) or pop singers with
this name? -- this is often where these kinds of names get
started.
