316.0. "What do you think ?" by RUTLND::SWITCHBOARD () Fri Nov 11 1988 15:19

    Hi, Just looking for some opinions.

    	  I can't decide if I like this name (for a girl)

    	  Arachne     pronounced ( A-rack-nee )

    	  It sounds like Arachnids (the bugs). But I like it. I think.

    Not personally.

    Kids might nickname her something like... Your acne.

    Just my opinion.

    I like different names, but I don't like that one at all.

    Again, that is one person's opinion.

	I don't like the name, either. If you didn't write

>	    	  Arachne     pronounced ( A-rack-nee )

	I wouldn't have had any idea how to pronounce it. I wouldn't want
	a name that no one could read. Imagine all the bunglings she would
	have to suffer through, not to mention the tedious chore of having
	to correct everyone.

	(Just my .02 worth)

    PLEASE think again. I will be that poor baby's Grammy and
    I doubt if I could ever call her by name!!!!
    How about....um....Siobhan... that's a real good Irish name and
    one that nobody can pronounce.

316.7Dont worry momRUTLND::SWITCHBOARDWed Nov 16 1988 14:018

    Don't worry MA. First of all Your're not going to be a grammy in
    the near future. And you know what I'm going to name my first girl.

    I was just curious to see if you were the only one who didn't like
    it.

    				Bye Mom!

316.9Arachne (spider) goddessHYEND::JRHODESMon Nov 21 1988 11:188
    FYI - For anybody who doesn't know Greek Mythology-
    There was a goddess by the name of Arachne - ... something about
    "trapping" someone in her web THEREFORE, Arachnid is the latin
    for spider.....

    I don't care for Arachne (I guess I associate it with the story)
    but if you are into Greek mythology why not Athena? I do like your
    mother's Irish suggestion though...
316.10Greek "A" Name AlternativesCLOVAX::HORTONTue Nov 22 1988 08:568
    I think Arachne is neat, but that "k" sound is a little harsh when I
    say it out loud to myself.

    How about another Greek name like "Ariadne"? I also like Athena and
    Artemus.

    Ofcourse, if you opt for an Irish name, allow me to recommend
    "Maureen".

    How is "Ariadne" pronounced?

316.13Arianna/Alithea/AdriannaPARITY::STACIECult of PersonalityWed Jan 04 1989 08:2410
    I knew two little girls by the names Arianna & Alithea (A-lee'-the-a).

    They were they most adorable little girls, both with long blonde
    hair, just like you'd picture little angels. I'd never thought
    of those names until I met them, now I love both.

    A friend of mine named her new daughter Adrianna. I like that,
    too, but I like Adrian best for a boy.
