296.1 | KAY-LA ? | BONOVX::BARRY | | Thu Sep 08 1988 13:13 | 9 |
| Don't worry about it...
To me the pronunciation looks like it would be KAY-LA. Is this
correct???
I think it's a really nice name and have heard of it before. I
don't think you'll have too much trouble with it.

296.2 | Cailah | EDUHCI::WARREN | | Mon Sep 12 1988 11:53 | 12 |
| I would pronounce it KAY-la also.
My daughter's name is Caileigh (KAY-lee) and sometimes people pronounce
it Kayla and sometimes (more often), people pronounce it Cally (short
a). I don't really understand it: "ai" is definitely a long "a" sound,
and the same people wouldn't think to pronounce Caitlin as Catlin.
I don't think you'd have that problem, though, if only because Calla
doesn't sound right.

That's a third vote for KAY-la.
It's a very pretty name and I'm the type who likes different
names and different spellings.
One thing that amazes me is that the names I picked out when
I was 14-15 (No! I didn't have children then/or now!) were
mostly from romance novels and they're very popular. Hopefully
by the time I have children, they'll be less common again.

| KAY-la is how we would pronounce it. We have pretty much decided
that if the baby is a girl, we'll name her Cailah, but since the
due date is in March, there is lots-o-time for my wife to change
her mind 8-).
Thank you for your replies.

296.5 | Kay-la it is ! | FILM::MASSICOTTE | | Fri Sep 23 1988 13:47 | 6 |

It is pronounced Kay-la. At least that is how my fiance's sister
pronounces her daughter, Cailah Mitchell. It's a pretty name for
a girl.

296.6 | How about Carla? | PARITY::LANGR | | Thu Jan 12 1989 20:09 | 5 |

I like the name Cailah, the only problem with it is, as you have
pointed out, the pronounciation. I thought if you liked this
name, another possibility is Carla; a pretty & similar name which
is easier to pronounce.

296.7 | Looks like an Irish Name | REVEAL::LEE | Wook... Like 'Book' with a 'W' | Tue Oct 24 1989 16:12 | 5 |
| I suppose it would be pronounced KAW-la in Irish Gaelic, similar to the way
Caitlin is pronounced kawt-LEEN. This, of course is speculation on the part of
someone with very spotty knowledge of Gaelige.

| I also like Cailah and the spelling is different. I like the
name Kayla (from that soap opera, Days of our Lives I think) and
what I was planning on doing was maybe using the name Michaela (mick-ay-la)
and then use the nickname Kayla. Michaela could also be pronounced
Mick-ky-el-ah, phonetically.
Just thought I'd add a little something.
