254.0. "Drug Warning" by NCMWVX::WARRENS (Teen time - NOT Tots!) Fri Jul 01 1988 12:38
The following is brought to you as a public service. If you have any
information distribution methods and channels, please use them to distribute
this message. For non-USA readers, I suspect that anything in the states
either came from another country or will be exported to another country.
This forewarning may help stem the tide. (No, this is not a 'hit on
foreigners', it is an 'eyes open statement on the reality of global
interdependencies'.)
While I don't want BABYNAMES to get bogged down by this sort of thing, stickers
and what not are soooo attractive to kids, I thought it important. The
remainder of this note can be used to comment or expand on this. Perhaps
if anyone was come across this, we could get some profiling together and
feed it back to corporate security..
PASS IT ON!

The following was brought to the attention of this office (the
Cumberland County Sheriff's Dept. - 5/26/88). Please alert your
community leaders, school officials, law enforcement agencies, churches
and anyone else you feel will help spread the word.

A form of tatoo called "BLUE STAR" is being sold to school
children. It is a small sheet of white paper containing blue stars the
size of a pencil eraser. Each star is soaked wih LSD.
Each star can be removed and placed in the mouth. THE LSD CAN ALSO
BE ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN SIMPLY BY HANDLING THE PAPER.
There is also brightly colored paper tabs resembling postage
stamps that have pictures of Superman, butterflies, clowns, Mickey
Mouse, and other Disney characters on them. These stamps are packed in
a red cardboard box wrapped in foil. This is a new way of selling ACID
by appealing to young children.
A young child could happen upon these and have a fatal "trip". It
also learned that little children could be given a free "tatoo" by
other children who want to have some fun or by others cultivating new
customers.
A red stamp called "RED PYRAMID" is also being distributed along
with "MICRO DOT" in various colors and another kind called "WINDOW
PANE" which has a grid that can be cut out.
THESE ARE ALL LACED WITH DRUGS.....Please advise your community
and children about these drugs. If you or your child see any of the
above DO NOT HANDLE!!! THESE DRUGS ARE KNOWN TO REACT VERY QUICKLY
and some are laced with strychnine.
Symptoms are: hallucinatons, severe vomiting, uncontrolled
laughter, mood change and change in body temperature. Get to the
hospital as soon as possible and call the police.
To help stop drugs, we must be informed and know the symptons
and signs. A wise man once said you must know the three "L's" LOOK,
LISTEN AND LEARN....
Please feel free to reproduce this article and distribute it
within your communities. Get the word out of this danger to our
children.

| Please do NOT pass this on!!!!!!!!! This is one of many urban legends
and has been around for some 15-20 years. It is taken from a
relatively popular book called "The Choking Doberman and other 'New'
Urban Legends and is available at most bookstores. There are folks
who have contacted the Cumberland County Sheriff's Dept (in Northeast
Maine - NOT in the Manchester/Concord, NH area as is said in the message)
and have gotten different stories from the *same* sheriff's dept..
There are discussions on this topic in UCOUNT::NEW_HAMPSHIRE,
QUARK::HUMAN_RELATIONS, and ANCHOR::EASYNET to name a few.
Someone called the Harvard Medical team and was told that absorbing
LSD through the skin is impossible.
While it is good that we be aware of things like this possibly
happening, there really isn't a need to start a panic. I have received
variations of this message every year around this time (or late
springtime) in the past four years I've been here at DEC.

thanks Kristy. By the time I had put this in and forwarded
it to everyone and anyone I knew, someone else had told me
the exact same thing!
What kind of people are SICK enough to even START something
like this?? There's enough terror in the world without
the need to ADD to it....

| This seems quite irrevelant now, as this appears to be nothing more
than a hoax. But I have to say that, re.1, I believe LSD CAN indeed be
absorbed through the skin. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, that's how it
was first discovered in the laboratory (A doctor experimenting with a
derivative of rye fungus reported experiencing strange hallucinations
after having touched the substance. The result--LSD). Feel free to
correct me if I'm wrong. This is just FYI.
Happy noting!
