240.0. "A difficult last name" by JINGLE::EVERETT () Tue Jun 14 1988 16:27

I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions to go
with the last name 'Volpintesta'. My boyfriend's sister
is due in October and we're all having a hard time trying to
find names that sound good with this last name.

The other difficult part is that her husband is deaf. He
therefore must decide on whether or not he likes the name
mostly on how it "looks". Also, it would be nice if the name
was not that difficult to pronounce so that he could maybe
    learn how to say it.

They have come up with only one name, Matthew. But, it is
not that easy to say (for a deaf person) and they do not
    like the nickname 'Matt'.

Well, any ideas anyone...we'd really appreciate any help!

    Thanks, dawn

For both reasons (the last name and the dad-to-be deafness), it
seems like it would be best to stick with a very simple, short name,
probably one syllable. This child will be forever spelling its last name
to people; it would be a blessing not to have the spell the first
    name, too.

Are there particular sounds that are harder/easier for him. This
could help us in suggesting names.

    Maybe:

    GIRLS BOYS

    Ann John
Mary (still a pretty name) Lee
    Susan (Sue) Mark
    Fay Paul

Joan (or Jane or Jan or Jean...)

So far, I think I like Sue and Paul best w/Volpintesta.

How about Lynne or Jill for a girl, and Kenneth (Ken) for a boy?

240.4PAUL's the perfect nameLDP::CORCORANFri Aug 05 1988 17:1618
    I agree too.....keep it short....

I have a deaf sister named Donna and her husband (also deaf) is
named Ray. After living my sister for many years (she's 29)
"B" & "P" names seem to be the easiest to say/sound. My name is
Barbara and she never had a problem yelling BOB....at least that's
    the way I heard it.

re:.0 - I think PAUL is perfect...and goes great with that last
    name!

    Just my .02

    Good luck
