209.1 | Rhiannon/Rhianna | GEMINI::FROMENT | You want it WHEN?????? | Wed Apr 27 1988 16:09 | 6 |
| Don't know any Rhiannons personally, but have run across a couple
on my children's school rosters. My cousin's daughter is named
Rhianna, shortened because they felt it sounded better with their
last name. I've run across a couple other Rhianna's (Rheana) too.
I think they were all born when the Fleetwood Mack song was popular.

| According to "Facts on File's Dictionary of First Names", Rhiannon
is indeed Welsh and means nymph or goddess. No witching overtones
were indicated!

209.5 | At last a Rhiannon. | WARDER::RUDDICK | | Tue May 31 1988 11:46 | 16 |
| Yes I know someone with the name Rhiannon, my sister. She really
likes it, but unfortunatly she gets called Nan most of the time
by the family. This is just something that has stuck with her since
childhood, because as a baby she could not quite get her teeth around
the name, and pronounced it Naninon.
As to the origin of the name, I know that in the books that the
Welsh use for their O Levels (Equivilent to Shakespere ) She was
a white Witch, which I think is what the Fleetwood Mac song was about.
I'd be interested if anyone Knows the name of the book that the
Welsh use, I think it begins with M.
