| Brittany is of English origin but is comes from the French as
"one from Breton", a provinvce of France. Brittany is the English
name for this French province.

| There is another derivation that I forgot....
From the Old English characterisation of Britain itself named
Britannia.

| Hi,
I just logged into this notes file to see what it was about. So
far I've found it to be extremely interesting. My daughter's name
is Brittany Michele and I'm surprised that it's origin is English,
because the first time I heard it (which is when I decide I loved
it) was in North Dakota in a primarily Scandinavian culture.
Thanks for the information.

| My dictionary (Dunkling and Gosling) agrees with .2. BTW,
Brittany is really starting to go off the top of the
popularity charts these days -- you don't want your
daughter to enter first grade with a class full of Brittanies.
