172.1 | How about Mark? | RICKS::STLAURENT | | Wed Jan 06 1988 06:31 | 5 |
| For some reason, Mark comes to mind. Mark strikes me as not very
common, but not too different either. I don't know of anyone who
recently had son with that name.
John (one of many Johns where ever I go)

172.2 | Just my opinion | 25348::HTAYLOR | Your CHOCOLATE or your LIFE!! | Wed Jan 06 1988 08:23 | 13 |
| I think your husband is right about the kids picking on the boy
for having an uncommon name. Many children can be quite mean when
it comes to picking on things.
A few names come to mind that aren't quite so common, but still
aren't as common as Tom or John or something like that. How about
something like Sean or Seth or William? Not quite as common, but
won't be picked on.
I went to school with a boy named Thor and BOY did he get picked
on for that name.

172.3 | Karl | NEXUS::STEPHENSON | | Thu Jan 07 1988 15:32 | 5 |
| What about Carl or Karl. I don't know of too many
people with that name, except my husband and
uncle.

| You might also check a baby name book with a list of current popular
names. Choose a name lower down than #30 or 40.

| Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess we just have to pour through
lots of baby name books to find a name that is unusual but not strange.
I have a friend who just had her third son a week ago and the baby
still does not have a name. I think they went through at least 20
different baby name books but just cannot agree on any name yet.
(considering that, my husband and I still have plenty of times.......)
Thanks.

| re .6: Funny you should say David is too common... I looked at
my babyname book which has a list of the most popular names from
1983, and Philip and Timothy were both higher on the list than
David. I was surprised!
How about Kenneth, Glen or Keith? Maybe pick a name that was real
popular in when you were in school - it's probably not so popular
now, but still a good name, not too unusual.

| HOW ABOUT BLAKE -- I FIND BLAKE TO BE A STRONG NAME AND ON TOP OF
THAT, THERE IS REALLY NO NICK NAME FOR THAT. SO KIDS IN SCHOOL
CAN'T TEAR APART THE NAME.
ANOTHER IDEA OF A BOY'S NAME IS ADAM.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND.

172.11 | THANKS | 30752::YUAN | | Tue Jan 26 1988 15:19 | 16 |
| Thanks for all the suggestions. My husband and I agree that we'll come
up with a final list of 5 names this week by going through some complicated
selection process. We'll then try one name at a time for a week to address
the baby, just to see how we feel about it.
Hopefully, we'll have a name that we both agree before the baby comes.
By the way, my friend named her baby Brenon (I think that's how it is spelled).
I like it a lot.
Some of my favorite names so far are:
Aaron, Derrick, Neal, Leigh ....... (but no luck on agreeing so far)

172.12 | What's common? | 3172::BOULEY | | Fri Jan 29 1988 12:04 | 8 |
| I know this may not be much help. But if you think of so-called
popular and common names, these names are not used much for
children born in the eighties. I am referring to names such
as TOM, BOB, JOHN. I have heard of ADAM used often lately.
I know... we probably have gotten tired of all the JOHNs, BOBs,
etc. (Don't mean to offend anyone personally!!) They are very
common names for our generation.

172.14 | Andrew or David | 16820::VINSON | | Thu Feb 04 1988 14:50 | 5 |
| How about Andrew or David? My wife and I are expecting in July
and if it is a boy these are the two names we like. We also like
the name Cullen which is a family name and we might use for the
middle name. Good luck. Dont pick a name too trendy or complicated.
The poor guy will never let you forget it. Also a good name, Mark.

172.15 | And a few more suggestions..... | MPGS::PELTIER | | Mon Feb 08 1988 15:26 | 11 |
| How about Matthew (I've always loved that one) or Douglas? Both
have nicknames (Matt and Doug) which are always good for kids so
they don't always have to have a "formal" name (the one your mother
calls you by - along with your middle and last name - when you are
in trouble for something!)
A few other suggestions might by Gary, Kurt, Richard (Rick), Charles
(Chuck), just to name a few.
Ellen (a very uncommon girls name)

| Well, I know that I'm a little bit late with a suggestion, but who
knows?! I just may be the one who gives the name that you both agree
on!!
Aaron, Darren, Blake, Randy, Tristan, Vance, Jason, Zachary, Daryl,
Jesse, Bruce, Bryce, Bryan, Dean, Ron(nie), Daniel, Malcolm, Cody,
Kamran. (pronounced like Cameron)
I hope that I helped. Good luck!!!
Let us know what you decide!!

Thanks for a lot for all the wonderful suggestions.
My husband and I still have NOT decided on a name yet (although we do
have our nursery ready). My husband is one of those person who
insists on waiting until the absolutely last minute before deciding
on anything (I'm just the opposite). So I guess, we may come to
some agreements during my labor or afterwards........
We've got a lot of good suggestions so far, but NO luck on agreeing
anything yet. It really drives my mother-in-law crazy since it's
her first grandson. But, she'll just have to wait until my husband
is ready.
I'm due in three weeks and I just cannot wait to get it over with.
This is my last week at work before I take the maternity leave.
I'll let people know what we finally choose (I'm really afraid it
will be something terribly common if my husband gets his way).
Thanks.

172.20 | Of course if you like it... | AD::TAG | Total confusion - one final sin!! | Thu Mar 03 1988 10:28 | 10 |
| re: .18
Tyler James is nice. It's unique, but not something that he
be likely to get picked on about.
Francis, on the other hand, could be a little difficult when
he is young. James Joseph,..he could be called "Jimmy Joe"

172.21 | How about Peter | JENEVR::MCCARTHY | | Wed Mar 09 1988 12:10 | 9 |
| I have the perfect name for you: Peter
I think it is a great name, and you don't hear it all the time.
I'm due in June and Peter is one of our choices for a boy.
I also like Daniel (Danny) but my husband doesn't.
I think Peter is a great name!!!

172.23 | Late entries!!! | AUNTB::MOORE | | Thu Jun 09 1988 00:28 | 6 |
| I know I'm late with this one, but couldn't resist. How about Eric
after the speed skater, Eric Heiden.
Also, my brother died a year ago and if it wouldn't be too painful
for my mom I'd name my son (if it is a son) after him. His name
was Barry.
