I am looking for some spanish names other than Juan, Jose or Maria. Nothing wrong with these names, just a little to common for my tastes We already have two children, Aleida (a-lay-duh) Marie, and Esteban (s-tay-bahn) Jose. We are expecting in May, and I would like to have all my children have spanish names since that is the trend so far. I don't really know any, except for my husbands family's names, and we don't really want to name our baby after anyone. D. Marie (NOT Maria)

I have a friend who named their first son "Miguel." He is a very nice looking boy and whenever I've heard the name, I think of him. Just a bit of information ... when my mother was pregnant with me, she read a novel (the birthplace of a lot of names) and one of the characters was "Elena Maria", - I might also mention that my mom is Japanese and used to spell very poorly (no longer true), anyway, when I was born, she wanted to name me for the character in her Romance Novel but she couldn't spell it .... I became Elaine Marie instead. - Elaine

I grew up in S. Cal. and remember this really good looking guy in high school. His name was Javier. Association means a lot - I still think the name sounds great because of the particular person who owned it! Robin

I have seen many Spanish names here, not all of them correctly spelled, but after all, there is no correct syntax when talking about proper names right?. :-) In most Spanish speaking countries, you name a person by his/her name according to names like the ones listed below, not by a nickname. For example, when you are calling someone Pancho, his name is Francisco, for Beto, his name is Alberto, for girls, Maripili, is a nickname for Mara del Pilar, etc. In the US for example you can actually name a person Tony instead of Anthony, this is not possible there. Somebody named Antonio although he can be called Too, his name will always be Antonio. Also, it is very common to have more than one first name. Also, in different countries there are different names even if they speak the same language. For example, in Spain some names could be widely used, but in Mexico not as much and in Argentina some might never heard of them and vice versa, etc. They might even spell the same name differently. These names are widely used in most Spanish speaking countries (with the correct spelling, including the accents): Boys Emilio, Gustavo, Francisco, Alberto, Joaqun, Martn, Rubn, Enrique, Pablo, Pedro, Roberto, Rigoberto, Valentn, Fernando, Gerardo, Octavio, Rogelio, Ricardo, Vicente, Lorenzo, Daniel, Manuel, Luis, Ren, Mario, Rafael, Carlos, Antonio, Ignacio, Jaime, Guillermo, Alfonso, Toms, ngel, Felipe, Jorge, Fidel, Rodrigo, Jos, Juan, Miguel, Benjamn, Rodolfo, Alejando, Jess, Hctor, Eugenio, Sergio, Julio, Csar, Ramn, Andrs, lvaro, Diego, Flix, Mauricio, scar, Javier, Genaro, and many more... Girls Mara, Elena, Mercedes, Guadalupe, Isabel, Ana, Patricia, Rosa, Luz, Carmen, Pilar, ngeles, Anglica, Eugenia, Diana, Blanca, Laura, Josefina, Leticia, Marta, Rosala, Beatrz, Ofelia, Lourdes, Virginia, Estr, Silvia, Clara, Adriana, Cecilia, Cristina, Carolina, Juanita, Rita, Mnica, Guillermina, Julieta, Rosario, Paloma, Milagros, nes, Amparo, Teresa, Margarita, Yolanda, etc., and convinations, specially with : Mara "something".
