| Hi,
Those names are interesting, not to say unique. I have only
encounted one hawaiian name that I find to be unique also. I have
no clue what it means. "Maile" (pronounced My-lee).

| I have heard the name Leilani only twice before. Once was one of
my students at a school I used to teach at and the other was a
beautiful girl in a talent show in Nashua. I also may add that
she was a WONDERFUL dancer!

SAID MAILE PRONOUNCE(MY-LEE) IS A NAME OF A LEI THAT A SPECIAL PERSON

| This topic quickly caught my interest, since my father is Hawaiian.
He was born and raised on the Big Island, and most of his family
is still there.
Maile is the name of an aromatic plant that grows in Hawaii, whose
leaves have been used (since the days of King Kamehameha) in men's
leis. Men's leis are traditionally a "rope" of leaves draped around
the neck, as opposed to the "ring" of flowers that you see for womens'
leis.
My grandmother (kupuna) has given each of her grandchildren a Hawaiian
name, and we all treasure the tradition! However, they probably
would be too long for a "regular" name. If anyone wants any more
information, I'll be glad to help, or at least contact my sources!

My mother is also Hawaiian. She was born and raised on the Big Island,
some of her family is still there. My sister and I also have Hawaiian
names along with our American names. My mothers' maiden name is
Hoopii. She also said Maile leis are still used for the mens' leis
in traditional Hawaiian weddings. My cousin and his Groomsmen wore
the traditional "rope leis". They are very beautiful!!!!! Please
let me know your fathers' last name and where he was raised.

My sisters' Hawaiian name is Leilani which means "Heavenly Flower".
Her name is pronounced [lay-lon-nee].
My Hawaiian name is Momii which means "Precious Pearl".
My name is pronounced [moe-me].

| My Hawaiian name is KEALAULA, literally translated means "the road
to the sun" or sunbeam.
My son's Hawaiian name is MAUNA KILO LANI, translated to mean "mountain
spying on the heavens". The story behind this is that on the day
Ryan was born, a new telescope was opened on Mauna Kea, which my
grandmother can see from her window. Several countries, including
the U.S., France and Canada have telescopes installed there.

| Yes, I've found this name in the boojk I've been borrowing.
MALIA (muh-LEE-uh) Hawaiian form of Mary, "bitter". Another
Hawaiian version is Mele. Malia is also a Zuni Indian name,
derived from the Spanish Maria.
