150.0. "Tegan" by 30681::BROWN () Fri Nov 06 1987 11:54
We named our daughter Tegan (pronounced Tee'gun). I have seen it
listed in two books, in one as ancient Celtic for "doe" and in the
other as Welsh (a Celtic language) for "beautiful". One source also
noted that there was a queen of the ancient Britain by that name.
I would appreciate any information on the name, the queen, and about
anyone else with that name. I have only seen it twice; there is a
character in Dr Who by that name (from whom we got it) and a credit on
a Hill Street Blues episode.
We wanted an unusual two syllable name because we have a common,
single syllable surname. I got to choose the name if we had a girl
and this was my favorite. I also considered Megan, but decided that
would be too common. She will forever have to repeat and spell out
her name but I still love it.
BTW, both definitions fit; she is a very pretty little girl with big
brown eyes. Now 2 1/2 years old. Her middle name is Jeanne, after my
wife's best friend.
