| My neighbor's daughter's name is Alicia Ann. She's about 5 months
old (the daughter, not my neighbor ;-)). I like the sound of it.

| Ann was the first middle name that popped into mind for me, too.
I like the sound of it, but wondered about the initials, AAK.
It doesn't spell anything, but it sounds like something you say
when you see something frightening! Does anyone forsee problems
with that?

139.3 | Alicia Ann | PLANET::WATKINS | Don't mind me-low brain cell count | Wed Oct 21 1987 15:32 | 9 |
| Alicia was the name of my favorite babysitter when I was little.
I used to name all my dolls Alicia. Her name was pronounced
A-lish-a, not A-lee-sha or A-lee-she-a.
By the way, people have had a lot worse initials than AAK.
I wouldn't worry about that too much. (As long as you're not naming
her Aak or something.;^))

| As long as the other kids don't read Bloom County you should be
okay. In the Bloom County comic strip there is a character called
Bill the Cat who is weird, to say the least. His most common "words"
are "Pfftt!" and "AAK" (or some such spellings). He also drools
a lot.

139.5 | middle names, middle names.... | SHRBIZ::KULP | | Wed Jan 13 1988 09:20 | 11 |
| Well, if it's a girl and if we go with Alicia, I've come up with
Alicia Anne, Alicia Gail or Alicia Christine. Any opinions?
Why is it so hard to pick middle names? We have such a short, hard
sounding last name that I though Alicia Christine Kulp wouldn't
sound so choppy.
I can't ask my son's opinion any more... he says we're not having
a baby or talks to my belly and tells the baby to go away. We should
have a really good time come April!

139.7 | what and where? | TADSKI::KULP | | Wed Apr 26 1989 09:29 | 11 |
| Cliff,
What does your name book say about the name Alicia? I had two
different books with two different meanings (I liked them both).
Also, where does it come from? Both books differed about that too.
It would be nice to know if her name fits my happy little "baby
monster". She is pleasant and happy and very persistant at getting
into everything and anything!

139.8 | The Straight Dope on Alicia | SHALOT::ANDERSON | Give me a U, give me a T... | Tue May 02 1989 16:39 | 17 |
| Hi Robin:
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but DECnet or BABYNAMES or some-
thing's been acting up, and I haven't been able to log on.
No, Alicia doesn't mean "baby monster." It's just a Latin-
ized version of Alice. Alice itself is ultimately from the
Old German Adalheitus (sp?) and basically means "noble." For
anyone who's had a little German, this meaning is obvious and
non-controversial. It's pronounced (correctly) "uh-LISH-uh."
What did you decide for the middle name? I hope it wasn't
Ann or Christine. Remember, some of us have to live with
the initials our parents gave us.

accounting)

139.9 | Noble monster???? | TADSKI::KULP | | Wed May 03 1989 08:54 | 16 |
| Cliff,
Thanks for the information. That was the one common denominator
in the books - something along the lines of noble or truthful.
I figured it came from Alice, so I had looked at that too.
And yes we gave her the middle name Christine, just because it is
a name I like so much. (I would used it as a first name, but
Grandad gets confused enough about her cousin Kristen.) I figured
the initials ACK weren't to bad. A good friend of mine has the
same ones and signs her mail that way! So now we have MAK and ACK
for our kids... hmmmm.
Thanks again for the info,
Robin
