134.0. "Tanya (?)" by 7986::BOGATY () Tue Sep 29 1987 16:30

We are expecting a baby girl (unless they mixed up
the results of the amnio...!) around November 7...

What's definite are the middle and last names:
"____ Rose Bogaty". (That's bo-gat-ee, or bo-got-ee
depending on which side of the Atlantic you're on -
it's Russian for rich.)

For the *first* name... We both like Russian or Slavic
sounding names and the current choice is:

	Tanya Rose... (kinda catchy, eh?)

Any other ideas along those lines? We like it, but aren't
ready to sign on the dotted line yet.

Also, are there any nasty nicknames hiding in "Tanya Rose"
that we haven't uncovered??)

(Her 3-yr old brother's choices for first names are:
"Funny" and "David" (his own name!) so you
can see the help we're getting from that end!!))

how about "Sasha Rose"? Sasha is Russian for Alexandra, which is
    Greek for "helper of mankind".

Or "Katya Rose". Katya is Russian for Catherine (the "pure")

134.3What goes with Rose??7986::BOGATYTue Oct 13 1987 08:0317
Thanks to .1 and .2 for your ideas! The jury's still out...
BTW, Carol, any idea on what Tanya means? Our book says "meaning
unknown". (Unless Tanya *means* "meaning unknown"!!??)

How 'bout names of *any* origin that go with Rose as a middle
name?? Any ideas?

	Thanks,

	  Dan.

(Skeptic that I am, I'm still not convinced we won't welcome a
"he" or a "them", despite chromosomal & ultrasound evidence of
a single "she". But that's another topic...)

My babynames book says Tania or Tanya means exotic.

Also listed under Tania is "fairy queen" - Russian.

    Hello there,

Just discovered this conference and ofcourse looked for my own
name rightaway. And behold! here it is.
My name is Tatjana. I never knew what it meant, I knew though it
is a Slavic name seeing my mother is Yugoslavian (my father is
Dutch). When I was little, I was called Tanja. Tanja is fairly
common here in Holland. Tatjana isn't.
If anybody else knows more about the origin of this name, I would
love to know. The meaning of Tatjana so far, I like.

    Bye
    Tatjana

Tatjana is probably from the Russian Tatiana. This is the
feminine of Tatianus and is from the name of a king of the
Sabines, Titus Tatius. Not sure what either of these means.
Tanya is the pet form of Tatiana -- and is much more common
	than the full form.

134.7first-hand info on Slavic namesUTROP2::LOTTUM_TTue May 09 1989 06:3415
    Cliff,

    Thanks for the info.
About the spelling, I've seen both Tanja and Tatjana been written
several ways. This probably depends on what country you're in.
In Holland we (mostly) write: Tatjana / Tanja
But I've seen Tatiana - Tania, Tatyana - Tanya

Anyway, I'll be visiting Jugoslavia this mounth, and I'll see what
the people there can tell me. I'll try and pick up a book there
on names, for anyone who's interested in Slavic names.

    Bye
    Tatjana
