| I couldn't find this name under your spelling. What I did find
out was:
Jocelyn Latin: "just". var: Joceline, Jocelyne, Jocelynne,
Joscelyn, Joslyn, Joslynne.

| I've always liked Jocelyn (no nickname). So many of the "J" names
(Jennifer, Jason, Justin, Jessica, etc.) have gotten SO popular,
I'm wondering how common Jocelyn is/will be. Do any of you have
a Jocelyn or know of one?
(We're already looking for names for number two, but we want a name
that is pretty uncommon.)

76.3 | I know one Jocelyn | SMAUG::LINDSEY | | Mon Aug 10 1987 22:28 | 9 |

My cousin's 4 year old daughter is named Jocelyn, and that's the
first one I have heard of. They named their other little girl
Janessa, for her parents, Jim and Tess.
I think it is a very pretty name.

76.4 | not that common | CLOVAX::SARANITA | | Thu Sep 17 1987 10:32 | 6 |

I Knew a girl in College named Jocelyn, but everyone called her
Joce (joc- e). That's the first person I met with it so I don't
think it's all that common, but wasn't it more common many many
years ago??

76.5 | 5 girls, 2 guys | KAOA05::LEWIS | Michael | Fri Sep 25 1987 14:09 | 6 |
| I know of at least 5 girls named Jocelyn, two of which are from
a French Canadien background. The female French Canadien form
is pronounced "Jois lyn", and you hold the last "N" for a long time.
I know of two men with the male French Canadien form, which is
pronounced "Jois len", with a very short "N". The female form is
spelled with an extra 'e' o the end.

76.6 | 1 year old...name after sister's friend.. | TWEED::E_FINKELSEN | | Wed May 18 1988 11:41 | 8 |
| My sister babysits for a Jocelyn. My 3 year old nephew calls her
Joc (which sounds more like JAWS da na da na....) and she is a go
getter so it seems appropriate!
He aunt (17) nicknamed her Beanie....(try to figure that one out...I
haven't...)

Pretty name. Pretty girl.

76.8 | Another French Version | CIMNET::BULLARD | | Thu Oct 20 1988 16:57 | 5 |
| Back to the French-Canadian version. I have a cousin who spells
her name, Ghyslaine (prounced like shus-lin).
I have no idea where the name comes from, but it's just as unique
and beautiful as she is (she looks like Merril Streep).

| I'm new to notes, so please bear with me.
Having had this name for 30 years plus, I can tell you that I have
only liked the name for about the past 10.
When younger, people had trouble not only spelling, but pronouncing
it and I was always correcting them.
I got use to it after 20 years or so and no longer mind correcting
them. (except when they call me Joyce Lyn)

76.10 | I have a Jocelyn | ODIXIE::RICHARDSON | Are we there yet?? | Tue Aug 23 1994 16:28 | 14 |
| I have a 4 year old Jocelyn and so far she loves the name. I wasn't
too keen on it when we came up with it (the nurse was really pressuring
us for a name onthe birth certificate since she was already a day old -
we just KNEW it was going to be a boy).
anyway - I like it a lot now. Her friends call her Jocie (NOT JOSEY)
and we call her Jos (rhymes with boss). It suits her perfectly - she's
also beautiful (of course I'm her mother).
The only problem I have with it is that we have found several people
who can't pronounce it (her grandfather being one of those). Some
people have problems with the "s" sound in the middle and say JOSHLYN
instead. It use to bother me until I realized they just can't
pronounce it for some reason - so she'll always be unique to "POP".
