My sister's name is Simmelle. (pronounced Sim-meal). I have never
seen it anywhere else. My parents expected a boy and were prepared
to name him Samuel after my paternal grandfather. Since she was a girl,
my parents were not prepared to name her Samantha, so created Simmelle.
(They claim it was a mixture of Russian and Hebrew, but the Russians
and/or Jews I talked with had never heard anything like it, either).
We called her Simmie or Sim for short as we were growing up.
