51.0. "Colin" by 10242::PURMAL () Sat Oct 04 1986 19:01

I work for Digital in the Mt. View office in California. I have
a 15 month old son named Colin Trevor Purmal. We searched the
Babynames book and chose Colin over other names mainly because of
my last name. Purmal (rhymes with thermal) doesn't go well with
many names. We found that first and middle names need a soft sound
at the end to sound good with Purmal. We also liked the name because
we thought that it was not common.

Famous Colins: Colin Knight of AMD
Colin Heywood of Men at Work
Colin Fletcher (??) author of "The Complete Walker"

Fictional Colins: David Bowie's character in "Into the Night"
According to my wife there was a Colin in the
                       old soap opera "Dark Shadows".

Most of all, we just liked the name and it seems to fit very well.
The only problems we've had with it are that some people pronounce
it like colon and some people want to say and spell it like the
     surname Collins.

Looking in a baby names book a few weeks ago I discovered that
Colin translates to child or infant. My son is going to love that
when he gets interested in what his name means.

A fellow contractor at my account has a new son almost as old as
my twin boys. (Her name is Moira, a name story in itself and one
side of a pair of fraternal twins).

Her spouse is a surgical dentist for children (has a different name,
but that's what it means.) Being in the medical field, and quite
a punster, they were very fearful of people thinking they purposely
    labeled their son Colon.

Their solution was to spell Colin as Collin, to emphasize the short
    o.
