46.0. "Brendan Michael..." by 33975::MITCHAM (-Andy in Atlanta) Mon Sep 15 1986 15:33

The above is what my wife swears will be our first child's name (if he's
a guy of course). I haven't made my decision yet...no child last time I
checked. :-)

She decided this after a recent trip to Walt Disney's Epcot Center while
testing our culinary tastebuds on some food and drink in the different
countries there...

Having had a couple of Stouts in the UK and done speaking with a guy from
Philly who'd (purposely) lost his wife and family, my wife decided to ask
the bartender's name whom she'd taken a picture of earlier (he wasn't bad
looking I guess). His name was, of course, Brendan. She immediately took
to the name and the rest is (yet) history.

I mention this story so that those of you who may soon be visiting the UK
section of Epcot may get an idea of what a Brendan looks like.

(actually, not a bad name I guess)

46.1Brendan's a great name !!!3270::FAIRBANKSThu Jan 15 1987 14:543
    I had a son 9/18/86 and named him Brendan Mulcahy Fairbanks. I
    had picked out the name when I was 4 months pregnant. Brendan is
    not all that common, but Mulcahy (a family name) is rarer still.
46.2That's what we had thoughtHUMAN::BURROWSSelma BurrowsMon Mar 02 1987 21:0118
        We thought Brendan would be an uncommon name when we had
        our first boy in June of 1981. We have since run into or heard
        about a dozen Brendan's (including the variants such as Brandon
        and Brendon). This does not count the Brendans encountered
        in such circumstances as the time at Walt Disney World when
        I called out to Brendan to come back and three others came
        as well followed closely by a parent. All four had been born
        within a year of my son.

        We had named our son after Saint Brendan from Ireland who
        supposedly crossed the Atlantic in a leather boat. Our
        "Dictionary of First Names" by A.J. Kolatch lists Brendan
        as a variant of Bran. Bran is "From the Irish 'bran', meaning
        'a raven'. In Celtic mythology, the god of the nether world".

    My name is Brendan and I am happy to see others with the same name,
    No one that I know of has this same name. I'm glad that others
    have researched this name. The book that I looked in stated that
    Brendan was from the Irish meaning little raven.
46.4Another Brendan Michael...TALLIS::BASTINEWed Sep 07 1988 09:1610
I just had twin boys, one of whom has been named Brendan Michael...

My husband and I picked the name Brendan when we were on our honeymoon in
Niagra Falls. We went to Skylon Tower for supper one night and the
elevator attendant opened the door and his nametag was staring us in the
face..."Brendan"... we both commented on it during supper and decided to
name our first born son Brendan.... so we did, but we didn't count on
Cory... he was a bonus!!

    I really like the name Brendan . . . is it really becoming
    that common?
46.6Still a possiblity...QBUS::MITCHAMAndy in AtlantaWed Mar 22 1989 10:099
    Well, my wife _still_ swears by it and, now that we've got one on
    the way (due in Sept, barring any unforeseen circumstances) there's
    a 50% chance that there may be one more, at least in Atlanta...

    (btw, we went to WDW in '88 and Brendan was still there though he's
    lost a little more hair. You should have heard my wife: "You remember
    us -- we're the couple who was going to name our son after you...")

    Almost forgot to reply to this topic. Well, there's another Brendon in
    this world now (wife changed the spelling again -- Brendon, not
    Brendan).

    Brendon Michael Mitcham was born 14-Sep-1989 @5:11pm.  7lbs, 12ozs,
    22-inches long. He's a strong one and has quite the temperament (just
    like his mom and dad).
