The twins were born June first 1986 11:58 am and 12:24 pm. (late announcement) Twin 1 Warrens, his official name for 4 days, magically turned into: Dylan Gene Warrens We always liked the Gaelic and Celtic names. And Dillon kept coming up. However, we hated the spelling and the way it looked when written. Being of the 60's and 70's 'mold', I took this spelling. As far as I know it does not mean anything, but has strong connotations for us as rebellious and 'make-sure-you-know-what-you're-talking-about' attitudes. Dylan looked (s) tremendously a lot like my father Eugene. Eugene seems an old name and didn't seem to go with Dylan, so we shortened it. We believe it adds a family tie but promotes change at the same time. If anyone knows a meaning for Dylan, I would love to hear it. Dillon, by the way, means faithful. I should recant, one reference does have Dylan as being by the sea. Madison, Wisconsin is hardly by any sea, oh well. Gene, a form of Eugene, means well-born. Can't argue with that! Randy

Congratulations, Randy. My baby name book says: "Old Welsh: Dylan. "From the sea." People wondered if this man was washed ashore from the sea. Dylan was the ancient Welsh deity of the ocean." As an example, they offer Dylan Thomas the poet (1914-1953). By the way, a friend of mine had a baby the first of July and also named him Dylan. -Tracy

Mmmm... and i thought we had given our son a fairly unique name for this day and age. Dylan Andrew Tancill was born on march 13, 1985. Why dylan andrew? We thought it sounded nice, a little irish, both my wife and i are part irish. We also had thought of the example of the poet Dylan Thomas, and this is the example we usually state when people ask "is that D-i-l-l-o-n?", "NO it's D-Y-L-A-N, like Dylan Thomas, the poet. Of course being a frustrated rocker at heart, I usually admit the real truth to those who won't look at me like I'm some sort of radical 60's throwback, "No it's D-Y-L-A-N, as in Bob." Another factor in our decision was not selecting something that was too "common", which ruled out a few of our earlier choices, Justin and Jason. I don't know exactly why but those two have been very popular boy's names in the last few years. I'm also not sure what was behind the motivation to select a slightly more unique name, perhaps it had something to do with my own... jeff
44.3 | Dylan Towne | MMO01::ATCHLEY | Mon Jan 19 1987 17:01 | 11
I've just started reading this notes file, since I'm pregnant - again.... We also have a Dylan, born May 16, 1982. He is Dylan Towne Atchley. Towne is my maiden name. We searched through baby name books and that one just seem to "fit". We also have a David (age 12). Since this will be the last one, it would be really nice to have something a little different!!! I'll be reading the file for suggestions!! - Debbie -

What do folks think of Dylan as a girl's name? We have toyed with altering the spelling, perhaps to Dylaen or Dylane. Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks, Leslie
