| | My name is also Tracy. Actually, it's Mary Tracy, but I've always
been Tracy to my family and I use M. Tracy Warren. I never thought
that was too cutesy. Actually, it used to be M. Tracy Bryant (no
E's), which I think is more distinguished than with Warren. I think
the E gives it more of a cute or young look.

Anyway, I too prefer the "brave defender" definition to the
"harvester" one. It seems more appropriate in my case since the
former is Gaelic and the latter is derived from Greek or Latin
(depending on where you look) and I'm Irish.

I always liked Tracy because I was always the only ones. There
are lots of young Tracys (or Tracies or Traceys or Tracies) now
but there weren't any when I was growing up. Also, Tracy is Tracy--
no unwanted nicknames ever gave me a problem.

By the way, I thought you were female from your initials because
they were lower case. I've always noticed that women tend to initial
things in lower case, which bothers me--as if we're putting ourselves
down or something. (I'll stay away from the amateur psychology,
    though).

    T. (I often signs notes like this; wonder what it means?)

| | I wonder what jkb would have to say about your interpretation
of my signature. For those who don't know him, jkb is John Bishop,
a knowledgable, confident noter. I happen to sign in small letters
because I am a HORRID typist and small letters means no shift
key to push. (Those who know me, are rolling in the aisles with
the thought I might choose a self-deprecating signature. I usually
have the Other problem. Come to think of it, when I write my initials,
I ALWAYS use caps.) So it's probably wise not to make any judgements
based on signature. (I generally try not to make judgements based
on names, but some images WILL pop into my head based on a name
and once there are hard to banish.)

As for Trac(e)y being Trac(e)y, no nicknames possible... Poppycock!
The fact that you have no nickname means only that you had no one
determined to give you a nickname. (A Blessing or not depending
on your view of nicknames.) My family (and a few good network friends)
all call me Trace. My sister is Kel. I call my husband, Gar.
(Rhymes with "air", short for Gary.) ANY name can be made into
a nickname.... Well, I really ought to take this nickname discussion
to a note of it's own. When I have time, I'll raise some questions
    about nicknames.

tlh (actually, I think tlh is more aesthetically pleasing than TLH,
nice curves, less jarring to the eye.)

                                 -< T. >-

I would suspect that it means Tracy, gut feel no reason.

                              -< Trac(e)y >-

I'm one who doesn't hate the name Trac(e)y. The attributes that
my mind associates with this name are:
       kindness, honesty and child-like.

    Not childish.... child-like,

a property that I feel should be carried with us through the years.

P.S. I've known how to spell My middle name (Arthur) for at least
          four years!

RE: .01 Yes, Tracy used to be a name you found few and far between
that's why I liked it...plus I felt it was short and to
              the point.

I sign my name "...tracy..." or "tracy" unless I'm writing
it then it's "TLR", and yes it's in capital letters.
At a company I formerly worked for everyone was called
by their initials, such as "TLR" or "SPE" or "DMD" etc.
I like "TLR", it has kind of a mysterious quality to it!!!

RE: .02 Nicknames??? oh boy have I got nicknames...

              Trace (silent 'e')
              Trac ('c' as in a 'k' sound)
              Trala
              Transesca
              T

RE: .03 I discovered my middle name when entering the business
world. Seems you need it there???...never needed it
              before!!!

    RE: .04 me too!!!

To add a view of my own, I'd like to say that I'm going to give
my children (if i ever have any) names that noone would ever think
of...names that catch you like Rainbow, Dweezil, Moon, River Phoenix...

    ...tracy...

| | The reason I'm replying to such an old note....I have been planning
to name my girl (if and when I ever have one) Traci Lynn. It threw
    me to find the title.

My first choice though is Stephanie Leigh...

(I'll probably end up with boys for which I've never come up with
    a name I liked)

| | In response to a few previous notes, my wife's given name is Tracey
Lynn and her sister is Kelley Leigh. Tracey uses Traci and claims
it is official because in South Carolina (her home state) use of
a name or nickname become official after a certain time. I don't
know about that, but in my travels down South I've noticed a lot
of people use i, ie, y, or ey. For example, Dad is Dickie, Mom
is Billie, and my brother-in-law is Richie.
The nicknames we use for Traci are Tra or Tre' (sounds like Tray)
    or Tra Lynn.

| 27.13 | Tracy Jo | 38472::HOLMES |  | Thu Sep 13 1990 09:50 | 23 |
| | I'm another Tracy. When my parents named me Tracy Jo, my grandfather
was outraged. To him, Tracy was a boy's name, and to stick Jo with it
and give it to his granddaughter was just too much!

While I was growing up, I hated my name. I didn't mind Tracy too much
but I really liked more elaborate names like Elizabeth and Rebecca. It
was my middle name that I couldn't stand and I would never tell it to
anyone. Now I've gotten used to it and I almost like it. It's out of
the ordinary and I do like how it sounds together. I've even got
friends who call me Tracy Jo now instead of just Tracy -- no southern
accent that usually goes with Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, etc though!

In school, there was only one other person named Tracey -- a girl.
Once on a camping trip I met another person named Tracy -- a boy.
Until I started working, they were the only others I'd met. Now it
    seems like they're everywhere...

As far as nicknames go, lots of people call me Trace which I don't mind
at all. I'm usually one to shorten peoples names too unless they ask
me not to. I did have a group of friends in college who were into
nicknames that lengthened rather than shortened names. So for a while
I was Tracer, Tracelet (like bracelet), Tracerina, and the worst of all,
Traceleterina! Luckily, none of them stuck!

| | I too am a Trac... but I spell mine Tracie....I used to like this
spelling so much as no one else had it...when I was christened my mum
did a check there was only 2 others at the time that were known...one
of those was a friend of hers daughter ! Now it is getting common...you
see it in magazines and books and in the paper...there was even a pop
start years back called Tracie. There is also a girl that sits
upstairs from me who has the spelling ...noe I am bored with it.
people used to say "oh that's unusual" when asking the spelling...now
    nothing is mentioned.

    Tracie Helen.
