18.0. "Jordana" by 9412::INGRAHAM () Wed Jul 16 1986 13:14

We named our first child Jordana. Like its more common counterpart Jordan, it
has middle-eastern origins (Jordan river, country). We think it's a very
pretty name, and most people who hear it apparently agree.

Jordana is unique enough that it's not likely to become overused the way others
like Jessica and Jennifer have. But on the other hand it's not so rare that
nobody's ever heard of it. We know of two other Jordana's in our town. It
does have the disadvantage that people occasionally mistake it for other names
(Joanna, Georgeanna), especially when spoken by a five-year-old. (She doesn't
mind when people do this, and gladly corrects them by announcing how it's
spelled.) Jordana is also sometimes misspelled "Jordanna" by others.

Nicknames are a bit difficult. Things like "Jordie" don't work. Jordana by
itself is fine (most people call her that) but for everyday use around home you
want something shorter. We've ended up using "Danny" most of the time, which
is cute and fits its owner. Actually, that works out pretty well, since young
friends just learning to talk can only handle one or two syllable sounds
(usually the last two syllables in a word or name), so "Jordana" becomes
"Danna" to them. As she gets older, Jordana has an elegance I think she'll
appreciate.

    Nice name,
I wold think Jo, Jor, or Jord might be nicknames also; especially
    the former.

    Nicknames (from -.1) ...

Personally, Jord is gross, Jor is silly. Jo is plausible but
personally again not what we wanted to call her. Jo's an unusual and
pretty girl's/woman's name. But too close to Josephine. My father's
    name was Joseph.

I just heard of a little girl named Jordan. I like it.

My little girl's name is Jordan Johanna, we like it very much. So far
no nick names, but I would guess that JoJo or Jordi would be
    potentials.
