| > For the financially challenged such as myself, Could someone please
> explain the terms: earn/share - Price/earnings
Earnings/share is the last reported Q earnings divideded by the
number of outstanding shares. The Price to Earnings Ratio
(ala the PE Ratio) is the current price of the stock divided
by the earnings for the last 4 quarters (which is why stocks that
have posted losses for at least the last 4 quarters don't have
a PE Ratio)
> and also what are attractive numbers which draw buyers?
Depends on the industry, current valuations, etc. In the case of
the PE, the lower the better, but some please less value on
the standard PE which is based on "trailing earnings", and place
more value on the PE based on "expected future earnings".
