Dan Dorfmann on CNBC did a hatchet job on Atari right after it
popped up, calling it a "solid" short and expecting the stock to
drop (the so-called target price) to $2.00 a share by next summer.
He cited "growing" competition, lack of game software developer focus,
and an "overpriced" machine.
Don't think this would be a solid investment. If you like this
industry, however, Electronic Arts (ETRS) on the NASDAQ is one of
the biggest game software companies. It stock has come down from the
mid-$30s to the low $20s and it might bear looking into. Otherwise,
I personally consider this industry a little too fadish for investment
other than "high-risk" funds.
Good luck.

| I'm really getting sick now. I thought I screwed up really bad
on USair (I still missed out on $40k in gains), and now I screwed
up on this one (Atari). I bailed out in December to write off
what looked like a loser all around at a price of 1 1/4. Now that
it's merging with another company it's more than recovered, it's
almost a new yearly high :-(

| Cheer up. I felt sick when I sold Adobe at 30 something and it went up
to 60+, but I could have bought it at 60+ and watched it fall into
the 30's. Repeat after me, the stock market is not predictable :-)

Jeff,
As someone in this file always mentions, "You never go
broke making money.". In October of '94 my Father had 100K available
to invest. I work for Digital and he asked my Uncle who is in the
stock market, about Digital's stock. I told him don't buy it at $20
a share, and my uncle said don't touch it with a 10 ft pole, buy
the debt. He keeps busting our chops today, sayin if he took 50k and
bought stock he would have made 100K in '95 on Digital alone.
It all comes done to what you want to risk. Can you afford to lose
it all? The average invester can't afford it all, so they take limited
risks. People with serious money take the risks, and get the big gains,
plus loses.
Just as an FYI my Dad lost some good cash, on my Uncle's advise
a few years ago. So when we both said no, you tend to go with your
past history.

In this case I didn't make money, I lost real money (not just
missed gains) :-(

| It's now trading at 560% (ie. over 5 times) at what I dumped it
at a loss (see .2) :-( Multiple that by the 3,000 shares I
had left when I dumped it and it really hurts :-(((((((((((
That old-timer investor I saw on NBR or W$W a year ago who said
he buys stocks, but never sells (ie. the extreme "buy & hold")
was no fool ........

Looks like the rumors from Feb. were true (see enclosed note I posted
in the Atari notesfile after hearing the rumor on NBR).
Why couldn't the rumor of occured in early December before I sold ...

Now my loss is up to $22k :-(((((((((

Title: Company known as Atari to go away ...
Date: 13-FEB-1996 18:51
Well get ready to say goodbye to Atari, the plan now is to
merge with privately held company JTS Corp. (a disk drive
maker????). Atari shareholders will end up owning 60%
of the merged company which will retain the JTS name ...
Not sure if the deal is final, and/or when the change will
officially take effect ...
