704.0. "Wireless Cable TV" by USCTR1::SMARINO () Tue Mar 22 1994 07:42

I am intersted in thoughts on investing in wireless cable companies.
One in particular that I obtained info on was a company called
Parkersburg Wireless LLC (Limited Liability Company). They are
establishing a wireless cable TV network for residents of Parkersburg,
    W. Virginia. Ultimately, once the network is fully subscribed to it is
sold (hopefully) to one of the major cable companies such as TCI. I
believe that this is Parkersburg's first venture into this marketplace.

Wireless technology is the way of the future, but I am skeptical on a
10K minimum investment which gets you two units as a member. I would
like to hear from investors of this technology or anyone who might have
    invested in Parkersburg.

    Thanks

    There are two issues here:
The advantages/disadvantages of a Limited Liability company
The potential of wireless as an investment

I would be very careful in investing in a Limited Partnership.

    The advantages are:
    	Investment is managed by others
    	Flow-through of income and expenses
    	Limited Liability

    The disadvantages are:
    	Lack of liquidity
The secondary market for DPPs is very limited. Once you buy
you cannot readily sell. [You can sell but usually it's .50
on the dollar (if you are lucky)]
Difficult - read impossible - to change the General Partner. The
'interest owner' has _no say_ in the operation of the DPP
You are hoping that the GP uses the utmost good faith in
running the limited partnership. She might be in a conflict
of interest. Also improper use of partnership assets is
    		another pitfall.

Remember it's the partners who contribute the $'s - not the GP. And the
GP gets a % whether or not the partnership is successful or not.
704.2DOUBLE OR NOTHING DEALS - WOW AND OUCH!!!!!POBOX::PATELFri Apr 29 1994 03:0814
Believe in TECHNOLOGY only to the point that you can absorb the RISK TO
REWARD RATIO. If you want to DOUBLE OR NOTHING, and can handle it, go
for it. If not look into TCI, AT&T etc and invest in them. You will
be guarateed to gain from the same technology - but with a much more
    favorable risk to reward ratio.

I always ask the Unsolicited callers to PROVE THE AMOUNT THAT THEY HAVE
INVESTED IN IT. If they can't then I'd ask them to call me when they
do invest - simple logic and a fair deal.

Good luck - This is just my humble opinion on these kind of ventures
that I have looked into in the past.

I also have been approached to invest in the Knoxville Tenn. market.
They claim this type of investment can be financed by rolling a 401
or IRA into it.....I felt very uncomfortable with this idea.

Also they mentioned a city in Florida that had filled it's share for
13mil, and ATT offered to buy it for $41mil. I asked the obvious....
Did the partners sell? They changed the subject which made me think
twice since the whole purpose is to fill the market and sell.

I don't want to feel I'm missing out on what could be the technolgy
of the 90's but....how come no one has come knocking on my door and
offering me 31 channel and Pay-Per-View for 1/2 of my present cable
    bill?
