You mean "support", not "resistance", and probably meant the 3600 level.
Anyhow, it could be because somewhere around 3586 represents 10% down
from the top (~3986).

681.5 | credibility of the coming rebound | NOVA::FINNERTY | lies, damned lies, and the CAPM | Fri Apr 01 1994 14:58 | 11 |

security returns are somewhat negatively correlated over a period of
about 2 weeks, i.e. a rebound of some magnitude is likely if we don't
get adverse news over the long weekend.
during the rebound there'll be a lot of people saying "see, the market
never really goes down for long, you've got to just buy and hold".
there'll be a lot of bears (as well as bulls) who will be looking for
trading profits over the next couple of weeks, but the interesting
activity will begin about 2 weeks from today. Then we'll see if the
bear has really been awakened from hibernation.

681.6 | What went up is now on the way down... | CARROL::YOUNG | where is this place in space??? | Mon Apr 04 1994 10:14 | 12 |
| Market's down 67 points at 10:00EST today...i guess the unemployment
numbers released on Friday were just a little too positive for folks...
any thought's on whether or not a stampede mentality will set in...
could be a real bloody bear run if mutual fund holders begin to bail
out.
One thought i had is that the markets may not be as concerned about
inflation fears as they are about what higher interest rates will mean
for the government deficit picture...
Any others,
Doug

What were the unemployment numbers? Do you have figures?
I just called Schwab to get some quotes & news and got a "due to market
volumes, please call after 4:30 EST unless you have a monetary trade,
etc." message. What's going on out there? How's the 30-year T Bond
trading?
Thanks,
Dennis

681.8 | Anyone want a job??? Why??? No one needs one... | CARROL::YOUNG | where is this place in space??? | Mon Apr 04 1994 13:40 | 10 |
| Unemployment stayed steady at 6.5% but 500,000 new jobs were added last
month which was the highest level of monthly job creation in 5 years...
Reich said the reason that the unemployment figure stayed the same is
because those out of the job market and not actively seeking work where
coming back in....which begs the question..."How many people are really
out of work???"
Go figure...

Friday bond futures fell 1 20/32 in heavy trading for a thin market.
Today the futures are off a further 1/4 or so.
DJIA is recovering but off 1% to just below 3600.
