653.0. "ELCOA Fixed Rate certificates" by MARVA2::BUCHMAN (UNIX refugee in a VMS world) Tue Jan 04 1994 12:33
I saw a brochure at the airport yesterday advertising Elcoa Fixed Rate
Certificates. The rates look really good: 7.05% for 6 months up to 9.05
for 120 months, and the minimum "investment" is $100.. The reply card
is addressed to Welco Securities, Inc. Has anyone dealt with them?
A few things about the pamphlet make me dubious. It is a very simple
layout in black and blue on white; looks like it was done on someone's
laser printer. It contains very little information inside beyond the
interest rates. And the small print under the interest rates notes that
the annual yields given (7.28% - 9.44%) are based on the period from
December 9 - 15, and should not be considered a representation of
future rates. One week is a pretty small sample size.
Still, it might be worth a call on their 800 number,
which is 800-695-1470 if anyone is interested. Note that I am certainly
not promoting this product.
