595.0. "Spectrum" by KOALA::BOUCHARD (The enemy is wise) Thu Oct 21 1993 17:58
Anybody want to venture an opinion on Spectrum (Spectrum Communications
Technology is the full name, I think). This is the relatively small
company that former Apple CEO John Sculley went to work for. The
stock was really down in the dumps not too long ago; it has seen
enormous volume since Monday's announcement of Sculley's move --
a big gain Monday on 20M shares, down Tuesday, up Wednesday, down
today, on very large but decreasing volume.
At first glance this looks like a long-term winner to me; they've got
some good technologies, and could really benefit from the
contacts/reputation that Sculley will bring them. Unfortunately I'm
not particular versed in this market area. Any opinions?
OTC, SPCL, closed today at 9 3/4 - 9 7/8

| Dont know about their technical staff other than they are in the
wireless technology area. There is a guy here in Los Angeles area
whoch has been promoting this stock for a year or so now every day.
His name is I belive is Jim Morgan. He has a 30 minute show called
charting the market at 1:30 - 2:00 pm on a buseiness channel.
If you want I could find his name and phone number and post it here.
This stock has had a roller-coaster ride as you mentioned. A few
months ago they had a big run on the news that AT&T has signed a big
contract with them. As it turned out the news was only half true, they
had signed a small contract and the stock Nose Dived heavily. Now with
the former Apple CEO news they are up again.
There was also an article on the October 19th WSJ regarding the
validity of their patent claims, or something to that effect.
Article also cites the fact that they have had losts for the past
decade and at one point they were delisted from NASDAQ.
All that said, I think Sculley is a smart marketing guy. I think
Spectrum is a speculative buy with high potentials.

| Dorfman said that their attorneys (in defending their many shareholder
lawsuits and patent claims) were likely to be the only people that
were going to get rich from this company anytime soon.
