583.3 | some info I picked up.... | SUBURB::THOMASH | The Devon Dumpling | Fri Nov 19 1993 08:59 | 23 |
| rumours that "debtstrapped" Tiphook will sell off its container fleet.
Genstar (owned by GE) and Transamerica are thought to be in the running.
Rumours are the selling price will be "surprisingly good".
Prices of containers have slumped because China has entered the market
undercutting the Koreans. Rentals for basic containers have gone as low
as 50 cents a day.
The "surprisingly good price" could be forthcoming as the result would
be to knock out a major player in the market.
April year end accounts the rental assets appear at 1,065m. The
trailers are estimated to be worth around 250m
Tiphooks shareholders rank behind the 1bn-plus owed to the banks and
bondholders.

583.5 | TPH moving up again | SCHOOL::DESAI | | Mon Nov 22 1993 11:24 | 9 |
| TPH jumped from 1 3/4 to 3 on Friday. Transamerica is offering $1.2B
for their container business and so will take care of almost all of
TPH's debt.
Dow Jones Market Monitor service (as of the weekend) is firmly bullish
on the stock. Accrding to the service, the low (over sold) resistance
is at 2 59/64 and high (overbought) resistance is approx. 7 1/2.
I picked some up this am.

News not so good here, the bit they are selling off is where they are
getting the profit from, so they don't know how they will pay off the
rest of the commitments, when they have a loss making company.
