528.1 | SCO, really??? | KYOA::BOYLE | Dirty Jobs Done Dirt Cheap | Fri Jul 16 1993 10:15 | 5 |
| I hadn't heard that Novell is buying SCO. Is this confirmed? If thats
true, they will have both the source (with their purchase of USL) and
the biggest PC unix. Formidable indeed.

528.3 | Netware 4.0 adoption by users | GOBAMA::CHANDRASEKHA | | Tue Jul 20 1993 12:10 | 6 |
| My understanding is that Netware 4.0 is a large bite for most customers
to handle, and that corporations are moving very slowly towards it.
This may have resulted in slow sales, slow increase in earnings, and
corresponding drop in price.

528.5 | More Bad News! | SWLAVC::HOSSEINI | | Mon Jul 26 1993 20:26 | 10 |
| NOVEL (NASDAQ: NOVL) was down over 3.5 points today . I think it
closed at around $21. Reason: It was downgraded by some analyst from
"Market Outperformer" to "market Performer" What ever that means.
They also lowered Novell's Q3 earning estimates to be below expectation.
The power of Analysts!!!! I think with the NT and the general market
view of all the high tech, there is going to be more downward pressure.
although Novel @21 is tempting.

| I've been watching Novell for the last 2-3 weeks now. It has been
vacillating between about 19 and 23...
yesturday, it was up 1 3/8 and closed at 21 1/4 on a volume of 5.6M shares.
today, i just called my touch-tone trader, it is off 2 3/8 at 18 7/8 on a
volume of 10.3M shares! that info was at 13:20 or so...
(DEC is at 39 3/4)

| NOVL has been taking the pipe ever since the WordPerfect deal. It has fallen
more than 20% since last week's close. Closed yesturday at 19. Lots of
analysts are saying NOVL paid too much for WorkPerfect (1.4B in stock). Any
opinions on the short-term and long-term prospect of NOVL's share price?

528.9 | No Not a good deal | SWLAVC::HOSSEINI | | Thu Mar 24 1994 13:32 | 11 |
| I saw the news too. As someone in the office said "Noora must have
been drunk when he signed this deal".. Fact is WordPerfect is losing
market share to Microsoft Word rapidly. Seems like Novell had to do
something but paying 1.4 billion for a word processing software IMHO
is a bit too much and will sure dilute their earnings for the time
being.
Unless of course they know something that we dont'. My guess is that
Vovell will bottom somewhere in the 15 -17 area and stay there for a
while.

The paper did say that he was suffering from memory lapses (seriously)
and he is set to retire in June, with no announced successor.
Wordperfect has about 7000 employees and had profits of about $10M
(pretty thin). The low profits were one reason that they had to scrap
plans to go public. If Noorda & company have big plans the market
doesn't seem to have noticed it.

| The WSJ asserted that if NOVL's stock price continues its free-fall, the deal
may not go through, as it is tied to NOVL's stock. already, the deal has
fallen to about 1.1B, i think.
it was up yesturday to 19 3/8 in heavier-than-normal volume
Other tech. stocks took the pipe too. WELLFLEET fell 7 1/2!

528.12 | Noorda Replacement Named | NWD002::THOMPSOKR | Kris with a K | Tue Apr 05 1994 20:41 | 7 |
| From today's WSJ: Novell selected HP senior executive Robert
Frankenberg, 46, general manager of HP's personal information
products group. "...a driven manager with broad experience...
he is among only a handful of executives with the technical breadth
and management expertise necessary to lead Novell"
Novel down 1 1/2 to 16 7/8 yesterday.

NOVL would have been a nice buy at 16 7/8, IMO...
