428.0. "Barrons (Weekly Financial Newspaper)" by WFOV12::CERVONE () Wed Mar 24 1993 11:54

I am looking at subscribing to Barrons (SP) weekly newsletter. I hear a
lot of comments in this file reffuring to Barrons.

Is it worth subcsribing to, if you are a stock market & mutual fund
    invester?

What kind of info is in the weekly issue NYSE, NASDAQ, OTC, AMEX?

Does it cover stock only, or does it include info on mutual funds?

    Etc. Etc. Etc..........

    Thanks Frank

Pick up a copy at a newsstand some weekend. _Barron's_ is sold many
places, though not everywhere. Then decide for yourself.

One of the problems with subscribing is that the issue comes via mail,
hence Monday or sometimes later. I'd rather read it on Sunday while
the news is still reasonably fresh.

428.2In my mailbox early Sat AM.DABEAN::NEARYBob NearyWed Mar 24 1993 12:237
I don't know how they do it but I get mine in my mailbox on Saturday
    mornings.
(How they write, print, distribute it to PO, AND then the PO gets it to
    me on Saturdays is amazing).
I agree with previous entry re:timely reading. If you don't get it read
over the weekend - it's old news. So if not delivered on Sat (due to
    storm,etc.) I buy it.

My copy comes in the mail on Saturday as well.

Conference noters should be aware that John H. lives up in the boonies
in NH where 4-wheel drive is mandatory -- he's lucky the mail is
delivered to his house at all.

Actually, mail *isn't* delivered to my house at all. I have a P.O. Box,
'cause there ain't no house delivery.

'Course that's nothing compared to where I lived when I was a kid.
Heck, back then, we lived so faaar away that sometimes the radio waves
took a week to reach us. We thought Dewey had been elected and were
partying for _days_ before the (perceived) bad news arrived...

My Barons arrives in Bedford, NH, on Saturday -- most of the time.
Like anything else that comes by U S Mail, it sometimes doesn't
make it till Monday, or Tuesday, or....

About half of Barons is devoted to articles; about half to data --
stock and fund prices, market and economic indicators, etc. Stocks
covered include NYSE, AMEX, NASDAQ, and various regional and
foreign exchanges. Mutual fund covered include virtually all open-
and closed-end funds available in the USA. Bonds and Futures
markets are also covered. If you want to update your portfolio
value weekly, this is an excellent source. I have a 1-year plus
stack of Barons in my library. When I identify a fund that might
to be of interest I use them to research the fund's performance.

The articles include information/opinion about general economic
conditions, relating them to investment, and articles about
specific stocks, bonds and funds. There are regular, fund-oriented
      columns.

Once each quarter there is a mutual fund supplement. It includes
articles about funds and fund investing, and lipper-supplied
      relative performance data for funds.

I would recommend Barons, but the final choise depends on what
works for you. As a previous reply suggested, pick up a copy at
the news stand, or go look at recent copies in any good library.
If you're fund-oriented you should look at one of the quarterly
      fund supplements in particular.

428.7They sell fast...AOSG::GILLETTCandidate for DCU Board of DirectorsThu Mar 25 1993 13:2511
Caveat re Barron's: Most stores get it first thing on Saturday
morning. At least in my area (Marlboro/Hudson) it sells out
almost as soon as it hits the shelves. I've gone "out to get
Barron's" at 1:00 in the afternoon only to find that *nobody*
has any left.

Barron's is *packed* full 'o numbers..for me, it wouldn't
matter if I got it on Monday as it still has tremndous
research value.

428.8Quartely MF Rating Guide = When?HYEND::T_HOLLANDDV8!Sat Apr 03 1993 21:2111
    Hi!

Can anyone tell me that latest issue of Barrons that contained the
Mutual Fund Ratings info?? I hear that this section is published
quarterly and am wondering when that latest one was published and
when the next one is due. I checked the Worcester, MA library
and did not see this in the Jan93, Feb93(they were missing one of
    these), or Mar93 issues??

    thanks,
             Tim

    You won't believe this but.........

The Feb 8th issue is the one that was mysteriously missing from the
Worcester Library!!! This is really a shame - someone took it upon
themselves to permanently borrow this issue I guess! Does anyone
know howe I might be able to obtain a copy of this - suppose I could
check other libraries. I should have known that the only issue that
was not there was the one that I was looking for!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
            Tim

    Chris,
Thanks for the offer but I did manage to find it at another
library. This is a great section and I'm glad I found it! FYI - the
next MF review issue in Barron's is due out on Apr26 issue - this was
advertised in the Feb 8 issue.

    thanks again,
                   Tim
428.13How to Subscribe?SNAX::WAGERAssumption-the mother of all screw-upsThu Sep 30 1993 11:337
I was thinking of Subscribing to Baron's and was wondering how much a
year it costs and what 800 number can I call to get a subsription.
This was the only note I found when I did a DIR/TIT=BARRONS.

    Thanks,

428.14do it for the convenience, if at allNOVA::FINNERTYSell high, buy lowThu Sep 30 1993 11:5316

    I believe that it's $119 for 52 weeks, or a savings of $11/year. Not
a lot, even less if you think you might be able to earn a few dollars
on that $119 during the course of the year.

It is a little bit more convenient to have it delivered, but the
postman mangles it in my mailbox as often as not, and it doesn't arrive
until mid-afternoon Saturday in my case... even later according to
    some stories I've heard.

    I'm a loyal reader, but I probably won't re-subscribe. If nothing
else, I've lost my excuse to get out of the house on Saturday morning,
and that's worth at least $11/year to me!
