397.0. "Online Info on Put/Call Options?" by CSLALL::ROSSOW () Wed Feb 24 1993 12:21

    Does anybody know of any On-Line infomation service that gives detailed
    daily and weekly Option information? I need to know Calls, Puts, Open
    price, Close price, and volume. I could live with just the weekly
    summary, but daily would be nice.

    About 7-8 years ago I belonged to The Source, a now-defunct info
    service that gave a lot of stock info but not much on options. I also
    used Quotrek for a while until it proved to be not what I was looking
    for. Since then, I've obtained literature from a bunch of services
    (including DJ and others) but not one has covered my area of interest.

    Anyone know of a service that does?

    Thanks in advance.

    Signal End-of-Day provides this via FM or cable (via CNBC and C-SPAN)
    and would provide your PC with price&volume data on every listed option.
    Runs about $55/month and is a good cross between low cost and
    high convenience. As you may remember, 1-800-SMARKET.

    There are also dialup services that let you download data but I find
    them to be more cumbersome than a broadcast service.

397.2Daily Open InterestUNYEM::SCOBLICKSun Jun 20 1993 07:4716

    I would like to know the current open interest on an option when I am
    making a buy/sell decision. I can get the weekly open interest figures
    from Barron's, and the daily volume from Investor's Business Daily, but
    without knowing how the volumne breaks down between opening and closing
    transactions, I can not see how to calculate the daily open interest.

    Or am I missing something here???

    Should a broker who specializes in options be able to pull the current
    open interest figures up on a screen?

    thanks,

    Frank

    The Wall Street Journal gives daily listings including open interest
    for something like the 1000 most actively traded options, if that
    helps.
