Has anyone heard good things about Sequent computer? I know they had a rough time in 1991 and they seem to be a track for a small profit in 1992. They are low cost/high performance server maker that build their boxes around commodity chips such as the Intel 486/586. They are very well regarded as a database engine due to their scalability and relative low cost. Stock trading at (I think) 21. I am curious about what their long term prospects are (and stock price).

Sequent has done a good job with their recent machines - good MP scaling and ties with leading database vendors such as Oracle, Sybase, and Informix. They also sell their machines under the Unisys nameplate; indeed, all of Unisys's best price/performance machines are Sequent made. | |||||

Today, in WSJ, they reported the loss of Sequent's president. Stock took a big hit presumably because the investment community feels this president is the reason that they are now making money. Of course, changing this one individual does not reverse the success they have had. They should prosper when the INTEL 586 chip ships. Look for continued success and hope for another president with the right focus... Jack B |
