Awhile back, August perhaps, I heard that there would be a congressional vote expected in November to reinstate the $2k/yr IRA deduction (as opposed to making a contribution for those meeting the pension/salary restriction). The vote would increase the income ceiling required to take a full-deduction from $40k(?)/yr to $120k/yr. Theory behind this is that it will increase savings in this country, thereby leading to more investment by private industry. Anyone hear any news on this??? Thanks, Dan

Sounds like a wholely non-democratic (party that is) idea to me. Reduce tax revenue so the private sector may have more funds to invest and pump the economy?? No, nothing like that will happen within the next four years for sure.

Don't quit your day job - you may not make it as a political analyst. :^) I believe this bill is already drafted and is expected to pass. Even Democrats listen to their constituency. :^) In a recent Money magazine article, they said over 90% of those responding to the question wanted the deduction reinstated. The real question is: what other gunk is in the bill, along with the IRA deduction reinstatement? ~K.

Re. .1 and .2 In fact Lloyd Bentsen, a *democrat* was amongst the chief backers of this proposal. |
