| I would call 1-800-TAX-1040, the general IRS information number.
The number to order the tax forms and publications you need to
complete your taxes is also easy to remember: 1-800-TAX-FORM.
The last action I take before mailing tax forms is to photocopy
the entire contents of the envelope. I always find a reason to
look at them again, and I don't trust my scratch copies.

| Thanks, I *do* make a photocopy of the form I send to IRS. What I want
is the copy of the same form after IRS have checked that form. I want
to know what numbers (or which boxes) IRS puts more emphasis on, while
going through the returns.
Do they write (or make notes) on your form ?

Re: .2
My understanding of the process is that the data from the return
you send in is keyed into the computer and then your physical forms are
just put into archive in case they have to pull them out later. All of
the rest of the checking for math errors, boxes so out of the ordinary
that they want to audit it, random audit check decisions, etc., etc.,
are all done with the on-line data. I doubt that the copy they would
send back to you would have anything written on it, except maybe (and
I'm purely guessing here) one of those "received on <date>" kind of
stamps to validate when it arrived at their office.
