I saw this blurb on DowVision_test. Kubota, I think is the majority owner in MIPS computers. While I wouldn't like to speculate, I have a feeling that this doesn't bode well for MIPS. raja ============================================================================ Note 20.101 Computers 101 of 113 SDSVAX::SWEENEY 11 lines 21-FEB-1992 07:53 -< *Digital Equipment Says Kubota To License Alpha Chip >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright Dow Jones & Co. 1992 Source: Dow Jones News Service Headline: *Digital Equipment Says Kubota To License Alpha Chip Time: Feb 21 1992 0748 Story: Broadtape 7:48 AM Feb. 21 categoryIndustry I/CPR I/MAC I/SEM categoryMarketSector M/IDU M/TEC categoryGeographic R/FE R/JA R/MA R/NME R/PRM R/US categoryCompany DEC KUB

I think Kubota owns 22% and DEC owns 5%. | |||||

Will DEC sell its 5% of MIPS (@1-2% of SGI now) and take the $1m+ hit against this quarter's earnings (DEC bought @311,000 shares of MIPS in 1989 at $16.37) by selling MIPS now (circa 12-13), or hang on and hope that their competitor can bring it back up? Decisions, decisions... ;-) -kb |
