BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- InfoModelers, Inc.,
a leading developer of state-of-the-art visual design tools for database
developers and business users, today announced that the latest version of
its database design tool is shipping today.

InfoModeler 3.0 is the only data modeling tool that allows developers to
use both conceptual and logical modeling approaches while designing
database models and re-engineering existing schema.

InfoModelers, Inc. began as a division of Paul Allen's Bellevue-based
Asymetrix Corporation. In October 1996, InfoModelers was spun off as a
separate company to pioneer the development of database tools incorporating
both Object Role Modeling (ORM) and Entity Relationship (ER). ORM uses
natural English sentences to express relationships between objects and
simplifies modeling by allowing database designers and business users to
communicate directly and simply.

Bill MacLean, President of Simdex, a Phoenix-based database design and data
warehouse consulting company, began using InfoModeler in 1994 to design
databases for Motorola, US West and other Fortune 500 clients. "The early
versions of InfoModeler (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0) showed tremendous potential and
incremental improvement. Now InfoModeler 3.0 delivers everything its
predecessors promised -- functionality, stability and flexibility,"
explains MacLean. "The biggest challenge in database design is not
normalizing the database, but making sure it satisfies the users' needs.
InfoModeler 3.0 guarantees satisfaction by supporting business systems and
removing obstacles to communication between these users and developers."

Tom Van Horn, President and CEO of InfoModelers, Inc., cites this
communication as one of the unique advantages of InfoModeler's technology.
"InfoModeler 3.0 involves business people in the database design or
re-engineering process, transforming their database into an effective and
flexible tool they understand and use," states Van Horn. "Because it
develops well-engineered databases in a fraction of the time, for a
fraction of the cost, InfoModeler 3.0 is a valuable tool for any business
whose success is linked to applications involving databases, whether it's
Internet access to a company's product list or a client/server
implementation of a customer database."

Since its inception, the InfoModeler product line has been based on the
principles of simple English constraint expression, ER/ORM modeling
capability, team development, reverse-engineering, and informative end-user
documentation. Now InfoModeler 3.0, available in both an Enterprise Edition
and a Personal Edition, offers additional features to extend the
fundamental capabilities of earlier versions. Enhanced with a superior user
interface, InfoModeler 3.0 performs build and migrate operations up to ten
times faster than InfoModeler 2.0. The latest version also provides native
support for all leading client/server and desktop databases as well as SQL3
constructs and extended relational types such as Informix DataBlade
modules. InfoModeler 3.0 is the only database design tool available today
capable of object relational database support, including INFORMIX-Universal
Server.

"InfoModeler 3.0 fully supports the complete line of Informix servers,
including our new, advanced INFORMIX-Universal Server," explains Jeff
Hudson, Vice President of Product Marketing and Business Development for
Informix. "InfoModelers' state-of-the-art software and demonstrated
commitment to evolving database standards will allow our products to work
seamlessly with InfoModelers' products. That's the kind of flexibility we
want to offer our customers."

InfoModelers' products have been licensed to thousands of database
designers and administrators, business analysts, consultants and users
worldwide. InfoModelers' customers include Microsoft, EDS, Hewlett-Packard,
AT&T, Andersen Consulting, Fidelity Investments and Sandia National
Laboratories.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- Informix
Software, Inc., (NASDAQ:IFMX), the leading provider of innovative database
technology, and InfoModelers, Inc., a leading developer of database design
tools, announce a strategic partnership to market solutions for rapid
creation and deployment of database applications using INFORMIX-Universal
Server and INFORMIX-OnLine family of servers, to professional enterprise
database developers worldwide.

A leader in the corporate database market, Informix has recognized
InfoModelers' newest product, InfoModeler 3.0, as an exceptional database
design and re-engineering tool for its object relational technology,
INFORMIX-Universal Server. InfoModelers has designated INFORMIX-Universal
Server as its premier database solution. With the release of InfoModeler
3.0, InfoModelers became the first data modeling company to provide
extensive support for the new features of INFORMIX-Universal Server.
InfoModeler 3.0 is a powerful modeling tool for developing object
relational databases with features specified by the new SQL3 standard. It
provides an ideal database design environment for building applications for
INFORMIX-Universal Server and INFORMIX-OnLine servers, including
INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server (OnLineDynamic Server) and INFORMIX-OnLine
Workgroup Server.

"INFORMIX-Universal Server provides the first complete object relational
server for the enterprise, including all the complex data types required
for a new generation of database applications," said Tom Van Horn,
President of InfoModelers, Inc. "As Informix developers expand their
enterprise database applications with INFORMIX-Universal Server, they will
benefit from the easy migration and powerful design support provided by
InfoModeler 3.0."

"InfoModeler 3.0 used with INFORMIX-OnLine servers and INFORMIX-Universal
Server gives a growing number of customers an effective way to incorporate
the latest applications and rich data types into their enterprise
databases," explains Jeff Hudson, vice president of Business Development
for Informix. "Companies can take advantage of Informix's leading database
technology and InfoModelers' database design and re-engineering expertise
to extend existing systems and quickly bring the most innovative business
applications to market."

The combination of InfoModelers' and Informix's technologies provides
database designers with direct control over the evolving objectrelational
database structure within the Windows95 user interface. InfoModeler 3.0's
reverse and re-engineering capabilities for all leading relational
databases to INFORMIX-Universal Server facilitate the rapid and controlled
development of INFORMIX-Universal Server databases from existing relational
systems. Developers can now create powerful INFORMIX-Universal Server
database applications and deploy rich content from the database throughout
the enterprise. The accelerated design and development provided by
INFORMIX-Universal Server and InfoModeler 3.0 will result in reduced time
to market for leading-edge database applications.

Informix's Universal Server is the industry's leading open, completely
integrated object-relational database management system (ORDBMS). Unlike
traditional relational databases, INFORMIX-Universal Server provides the
extensibility needed to effectively manage a broad range of data types
including images, video and audio. Informix Dynamic Scalable Architecture
(DSA) provides the database with near-linear scalability to support
enterprise deployment of applications using these new types of content.

Availability

InfoModeler 3.0 is currently integrated with, and available for,
INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server, INFORMIX-OnLine Workgroup Server and
INFORMIX-Universal Server.
