DataTools(TM), Inc. today announced the availability of Data Optimizer(TM),
the only client/server database tool to compress, store, and manage a wide
range of data and UNIX files with an average 400 percent efficiency
improvement. Data Optimizer is the first data compression solution that
allows client/server-based, high-volume data customers to reduce the costs
of managing and storing strategic business information by optimizing the
effectiveness of existing resources. With Data Optimizer, customers can
transparently increase data storage through high-speed data compression,
automatic load balancing across available disk devices, and logical disk

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- BMC Software Inc., a
worldwide leader in the development of computer software for managing
business-critical applications and data, today announced it has exercised
its option to acquire Sunnyvale, Calif.-based DataTools Inc., a private
company focused on the development of enterprise backup and recovery
solutions. The $60 million acquisition, paid in cash, demonstrates BMC
Software's commitment to expanding the breadth and depth of its existing
backup and recovery solutions and strategy across the company's key focus
areas: application management, data management and performance
optimization.
"Two years ago, BMC acquired an option to purchase DataTools and became the
sole distributor of the company's backup and recovery products. Since the
signing of this alliance, DataTools has executed their product development
plans extremely well, and BMC Software has launched its own open systems

manage their database recoveries. Today, the SQL-BackTrack product line can
