---------------------------------------------------------------------------

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ via Individual Inc. -- Lawson Software
announced today plans to package a comprehensive decision support and
analysis solution that employs Arbor Software's Essbase OLAP (on-line
analytical processing) Server and Essbase Web Gateway technology.

Under the expanded partnership, Lawson and Arbor Software are integrating
Arbor's Essbase OLAP Server and Essbase Web Gateway with the LAWSON
INSIGHT(TM) process suites. The new LAWSON INSIGHT Analysis Cubes extract
data from Lawson's on-line transaction processing (OLTP) stores into
Essbase "cubes" that provide dynamic, multidimensional analysis
capabilities for financial/operational planning and management reporting.

"We are already realizing tremendous benefits from the integration of
Lawson financials and Essbase in a number of key business applications
including budgeting, forecasting, planning, financial consolidation and
reporting," said Gordon Jones, manager of financial reporting at USA Waste,
based in Houston. "Essbase provides us with the flexibility and speed
critical to our all around financial reporting and analysis needs. We are
very excited to see Lawson and Arbor Software extend their partnership to
work even closer together."

The LAWSON INSIGHT Business Management System provides four fully
integrated process suites that support and facilitate the cross-functional
execution of business processes: financials, human resources, procurement,
and supply chain management. Five components, integrated across all LAWSON
INSIGHT Process Suites, comprise the foundation of the LAWSON INSIGHT
Business Management System; web-deployable, activity-based management,
workflow technology, self-service, and process driven.

The unique, web-enabled OLAP capabilities offered by the Essbase Web
Gateway provide LAWSON INSIGHT customers with scalable, high-speed,
interactive, read and write access to the Essbase OLAP Server over the
World Wide Web. Lawson customers will gain a robust OLAP solution that
integrates with their Lawson application data, corporate data marts and
data warehouses. Lawson will provide complete training and service support.
Phase one of the new solution is scheduled for availability from Lawson in
March.

"Our expanded partnership and joint development efforts with Lawson deliver
seamless integration between transactional data in LAWSON INSIGHT and
Essbase's OLAP servers robust analytical capabilities," said Jim Dorrian,
Arbor's chairman and CEO. "We are pleased that customers like USA Waste are
already leveraging the powerful combination of LAWSON INSIGHT and Essbase.
Through a strategic distribution relationship with Lawson, we will continue
to expand our global market reach."

Information Delivery Framework

As part of its announcement today, Lawson is announcing a new "Information
Delivery Framework" that will thread a wide variety of OLTP data stores
from its breadth of database partners, including Oracle, Sybase and
Informix, into reporting and analysis solutions. Lawson will build
"information pumps" which will bi-directionally move data between the OLTP
and OLAP data stores. This will automate the data movement and maintenance
of data hierarchies. The OLAP information pumps will include published
application programming interfaces (API's) that will allow other desktop
OLAP and report writer solutions to be leveraged in the solution offering a
highly flexible and broad information solution.

"Lawson remains committed to the business of incorporating the newest
technologies into solutions that meet critical business needs," said Mark
Galloway, vice president of strategic planning. "Our partnership with
companies such as Arbor Software advance what each supplier could
accomplish alone and bring measurable business value to our joint
customers."

Essbase OLAP Server is optimized for business planning, analysis and
management reporting, including a wide range of data warehousing
applications such as budgeting, forecasting, financial consolidations,
sales analysis, profitability analysis and EIS. Based upon a true,
client/server architecture, Essbase supports multi-user read and write
access, large-scale data capacity, robust analytical calculations flexible
data navigation and consistent, rapid response times. The Essbase server's
open architecture supports direct data access using standard spreadsheets,

Lawson Announces Commercial Delivery of New OLAP Product; Dynamic Analysis,
Reporting Achieved By Tight Links With Arbor

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: Tuesday, April 29, 1997
Source: PR Newswire
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK, April 28 /PRNewswire/ via Individual Inc. -- Lawson Software, The
Web Enterprise Company, announced today the general availability of its new
on-line analytical processing (OLAP) information analysis product, LAWSON
INSIGHT(TM) OLAP. The new software product gives companies a nearly
infinite number of opportunities to visually access, analyze and report
critical business data using intelligent, pre-configured information
filters. The announcement was made here today at the opening of the SoftEx
in Accounting & Finance Conference in New York where Lawson is
demonstrating its new OLAP Financial Reporting module.

Lawson's Financial Reporting module is the first product deliverable in
Lawson's previously announced Information Access Suite introduced in
February with the start of a joint partnership with Arbor Software (Nasdaq:
ARSW). Today, Lawson's new OLAP product tightly links the Arbor Essbase
OLAP Server with on-line transactional processing data (OLTP) stored in the
LAWSON INSIGHT Financials suite. Lawson has built information pumps that
transfers data between the OLTP and OLAP data stores by automating data
movement/maintenance hierarchies. Lawson now threads a wide variety of OLTP
data stores from its breadth of database partners, including Oracle, Sybase
and Informix.

"USA Waste has more than doubled in size in the past year to over $2
billion in annual revenues," said Gordon Jones, manager of financial
reporting for USA Waste in Houston. "The Lawson/Arbor solution is allowing
us to analyze key business information such as price/volume ratios and
market performance comparisons, as well as perform very quick ad-hoc
analysis for audit purposes. It will also help us to quickly consolidate
new entities into corporate reporting, which is key for a rapidly expanding
company such as ours. The quality and availability of strategic business
information at USA Waste is continually improving as a result of this
solution."

OLAP functionality is characterized by dynamic, multi-dimensional analysis
of consolidated enterprise data into data "cubes." The cubes enable
analysts, managers and executives to gain insight into business operations
through fast, consistent, interactive access to a wide variety of
information. Cubes reflect the transformation of raw data into intelligent,
consistent company-useful data. For example, an OLAP cube may consist of
sales data that has been aggregated by region, by product type and by sales
channel, but has the intelligence to eliminate inter-company sales that
would otherwise skew external revenue reports.

The LAWSON INSIGHT Financials OLAP module transports data between the
Lawson relational data store and the Arbor Essbase OLAP Server. During this
process an information pump reads the relational store for a specific
company, organizes data from multiple general ledger files and uses the
Arbor Essbase Application Programming Interface (API) to build an
information cube containing financial reporting information. With this
information the user is able to rapidly access and analyze financial data
organized by several different dimensions by using the Arbor Essbase with
standard spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel and over 30 Essbase-Ready
front-end tools.

"We are pleased that Lawson selected Arbor Essbase as its strategic OLAP
platform for LAWSON INSIGHT," says James Dorrian, chairman and CEO of Arbor
Software. "Tight integration between Lawson's OLTP data and OLAP data in
Arbor Essbase data marts provides customers with an open, powerful and
flexible information delivery solution."

The LAWSON INSIGHT Financials OLAP module is the first of several modules
for LAWSON INSIGHT OLAP. Soon to follow are pre-defined templates for all
four of the process suites: financials, human resources, procurement and
supply chain management. Five components characterize the LAWSON INSIGHT
Process Suites and are integrated throughout all modules:
web-deployability, activity-based management, workflow technology,
self-service and process driven capabilities.
