Leading Search Engine

BURLINGTON, Mass., March 10 /PRNewswire/ via Individual Inc. -- Object
Design, Inc. (Nasdaq: ODIS), the leading provider of object database
software for the Web, and AltaVista Internet Software, Inc., a subsidiary
of Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC), today announced that
AltaVista has joined Object Design's Object Manager Developer Program.
Through this partnership, the two companies will integrate the AltaVista
Search Developer's Kit 97 with ObjectStore(R), Object Design's flagship
database. ObjectStore is the first database with which AltaVista is
integrating its popular search engine software.

Developers building high-performance, scaleable, content-rich Web
applications using the Object Design(R) ObjectStore database will now be
able to incorporate AltaVista's high-performance text indexing and search
functionality easily and quickly. The AltaVista Search Developer's Kit 97
for ObjectStore will enable developers to immediately index the text found
in any objects in ObjectStore and perform full text searches on them right
out of the box.

"We are excited to partner with Object Design to integrate our search
engine technology with ObjectStore," said Freddy Mini, vice president of
marketing at AltaVista. "Object Design is a leading player in the Internet
database market and its technology is a perfect fit with our AltaVista
Search Developer's Kit."

"Time to market with new Web applications is critical and thanks to our
partnerships with Internet technology leaders like AltaVista, we can offer
our customers a broad range of fully integrated components that plug and
play with ObjectStore," said Melissa Webster, vice president of marketing
at Object Design, Inc. "AltaVista's proven search engine technology will
greatly benefit our customers who need to build large text indexes for
their ObjectStore data and perform quick searches on that data."

About the AltaVista Search Developer's Kit 97

The AltaVista Search Developer's Kit 97 contains the tools and runtime
licenses developers need to create, demonstrate, pilot and implement an
AltaVista Search powered solution. The kit allows developers to build
solutions on their own systems or at a customer's site, eliminating the
need to rebuild, reload or reconfigure for production implementation.

About the Object Manager Developer Program

The Object Manager Developer Program makes it easy for industry-leading
Internet and multimedia vendors to integrate their Java and C++ class
libraries with ObjectStore. The program benefits ObjectStore application
developers by making available off-the-shelf, reusable components for
quickly and easily building sophisticated Web applications. Object Managers
are easy-to-build, extendible software modules integrated with ObjectStore
that let developers store, manage and perform functions on any type of
data.
