LONDON, June 4 /PRNewswire/ via Individual Inc. -- Seagate Software, a
leader in Business Intelligence software, today announced the immediate
availability of Seagate Holos 6. In a major innovation which greatly
extends the applicability of On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP)
solutions, Seagate Holos 6 supports data volumes limited only by hardware,
simplifies the view of the data for both user and application developer,
and provides scalable performance by exploiting parallel processing
computing power. Compound OLAP Architecture (COA) allows the free
combination of any number of individual Seagate Holos OLAP datastores,
similar to JOINs in the relational database world. These datastores cover a
spectrum from Relational OLAP (ROLAP) to Multidimensional OLAP (MOLAP). The
Compound OLAP Architecture re-defines the OLAP marketplace, represents a
coming-of-age for OLAP, and provides a state-of-the-art innovation to the
OLAP marketplace.
"In retrospect, it is amazing that no OLAP tool has introduced this concept
before," said Nigel Pendse, co-author of The OLAP Report, which can be
accessed at www.olapreport.com. "The new Seagate Holos COA is ingenious and
adds an enormous range of flexibility and extensibility in manipulating and
presenting multidimensional data."
Donald MacCormick, Seagate Holos product manager said, "We have always
recognized the need for greater flexibility in handling Business
Intelligence data. We were the first vendor to offer Hybrid OLAP which
allows different storage mechanisms for different data types. Recently, the
whole industry has struggled with soaring data volumes in real world OLAP
systems. Seagate Holos' COA gives our customers the flexibility and
scalability that makes OLAP data constraints a thing of the past."
Veronica Brunwin, UK datawarehousing manager for Sequent said, "In recent
comparative scalability tests we were extremely pleased to see how well
Seagate Holos 6 performed on the NUMA-Q 2000 system (Non-uniform Memory
Architecture). It is certainly the only multidimensional product we saw
that utilizes multi-threading on consolidation this test has proved that
this OLAP database provides a viable way of holding and working with large
volumes of data."
