Open Systems Advisors Selects Information Advantage DecisionSuite For
Crossroads A-List For Second Consecutive Year
DecisionSuite Only Relational OLAP Product Awarded AA-rating
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (February 25, 1997) -- Information Advantage, the leading
provider of enterprise business analysis software, announced today that its
DecisionSuite software was selected by Open Systems Advisors, Inc. (OSA),
for inclusion on their prestigious Crossroads A-List. The Crossroads A-List
is a short list of proven products and services for enterprise-wide,
mission-critical computing. In addition to being named to the Crossroads
A-List, DecisionSuite was the only relational OLAP product awarded the
AA-rating as a product proven in production today for enterprise-wide,
customer-supplier, or mission-critical use.
Open Systems Advisors, Inc., a Boston-based industry research firm, produces
the Crossroads A-List to serve as an initial information resource for IS
managers searching for customer-proven and preferred enterprise computing
solutions. OSA specifically reviews products and services across a range of
application areas and market niches that benefit the business of an
organization-those relevant to creating new products, increasing sales,
improving customer service, and improving time to market, revenues, growth,
and/or profitability.
"We are very pleased that Open Systems Advisors has recognized DecisionSuite
for the value it provides enterprise-wide to organizations," said Rick
Parker, vice president of product marketing. "It's well known that OSA does
very thorough research of each vendor's software products, services, and
strategies under consideration, including confidential interviewing of users
for their informed judgment of the technology."
"OSA created the Crossroads A-List to help results-oriented IT executives
cut through the unbelievable industry hype and select proven products,"
said Nina Lytton, president of Open Systems Advisors. "Information Advantage
is the only relational OLAP vendor to receive our highest AA-rating for two
consecutive years."
In order to compile the Crossroads A-List, Open Systems Advisors solicited
industry-wide referrals to identify newly proven products and services. Then
OSA's analysts conducted confidential interviews with users. This exhaustive
process ensured that the resulting list of A-List technologies included only
those that were proven to support large-scale, enterprise-wide projects. OSA
contends that the technologies that made it onto the Crossroads A-List
should be on the radar screen of anyone involved in enterprise computing.

Information Advantage announces Universal Access; extending OLAP
capabilities to casual users; DecisionSuite 5.6 features WebOLAP Universal
Access, first software to index the data warehouse to Intranet search
engines
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: Tuesday, April 29, 1997
Source: Business Wire
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- Information Advantage,
the leading provider of enterprise online analytical processing (OLAP)
software, today announced DecisionSuite Server 5.6, the first software that
indexes the data warehouse to Intranet search engines and seamlessly
connects non-technical users with data warehouse analysis directly from any
Web hyperlink without an application.
WebOLAP/Universal Access (UA), new in DecisionSuite 5.6, provides users
unlimited dynamic analytic views of data warehouses via direct access from
any Web hyperlinks, BookMarks, and E-Mail Attachments. WebOLAP/UA includes
auto-prompt security and a "Pay-Per-View" metering model, enabling
organizations to license and manage blocks of reports for large groups of
casual users.
"This solution allows organizations to offer OLAP analysis to a broader
class of decision makers," said Wayne Eckerson, director of the Business
Intelligence & Data Warehouse Service at the Patricia Seybold Group in
Boston. "Non-technical users can access and analyze the data warehouse
using the familiar "search and link" context of a browser, which masks the
complexities of OLAP from users."
"Traditional OLAP tools have always focused on delivering analysis to small
groups of power users," said Tim Davis, director of the AIMS Data Warehouse
Group at Fidelity Investments. "With Universal Access, we can now have an
unlimited number of users around the world accessing and performing OLAP
business analysis from Web browsers via standard search engines through a
fully secured environment."
"With DecisionSuite WebOLAP/UA, IA continues to demonstrate innovation by
delivering Web-enabled data warehousing solutions," said Jim Murphy,
solutions marketing manager for HP's Enterprise Systems Division. "As a
partner in HP's best-of-class OpenWarehouse Alliance program, IA's OLAP
solution is integrated with HP hardware and data warehouse management tools
to unleash the power of data warehouse information to organizations in a
fully-managed and secure environment."
"Information Advantage's steadfast vision is to provide accelerated,
effective decision-making across the entire enterprise, while drastically
slashing the cost of disseminating business-critical information," said
Larry Ford, president and CEO of Information Advantage. "WebOLAP/UA extends
this vision by seamlessly providing secure data warehouse access and
analysis to internal decision makers over Intranets, and customers and
suppliers over Extranets."
In addition to WebOLAP/UA, DecisionSuite Server 5.6 enhances the
performance of IA's powerful, network-based OLAP Engine with further
enhancements to its sparse data optimizer. "Our customers will see solid
improvements in 5.6's memory management and run-time performance,
especially when data sparcity is less than one percent. This is a critical
feature for any organization analyzing millions of customers in a
multi-terabyte database," commented Ford.
Other enhancements provided in DecisionSuite Server 5.6 include a
comprehensive selection of OLAP calculations for the retail and financial
services industries and powerful new attribute analysis capabilities.
"The expanded reporting capabilities let us broaden the scope of our
analysis for more high-value decision support reporting," said John
Mitchell, vice president of Applications Development at Neiman Marcus. "The
enhanced retail capabilities in DecisionSuite 5.6 provide further proof of
Information Advantage's understanding of our business, and accelerates
their lead in the OLAP market."
Enhanced OLAP visualization techniques in DecisionSuite Server 5.6 include
a new desktop charting wizard, advanced chart types, unlimited chart
templates and interactive charting. New exception highlighting and
stop-lighting features improve visualization of information to further
leverage Information Advantage's strong agent technology.
Availability
DecisionSuite Server 5.6 is available immediately from Information
Advantage. It includes support for Microsoft Windows clients, leading Web
browsers, a wide variety of UNIX servers, and IBM, NCR, Oracle, Informix,
Red Brick, Sybase, and Tandem databases.
